my wife likes sci-fi video games and rpgs hell shes hooked on my old copy of lunar 2 but when i try to get her to paint a model or start asking if she would like to start an army she says no i got her to go to a game with me once and she rolled the dice for every turn and holy god all mighty she has the gift i never seen so many 5&6\'s rolled so often im my life if she would play i mean she could pwn totaly but she ok with like when i go too the club to get a game in and come home she ask me if won and did any thign funny happen cuz shes hung out with me and all my friends and were notriuos for the comic relife armies but she did a test run with me when i got my new warmachine stuff and damn she rolled like that agin but doesnt want to give it as try so what im asking is how did all you guys get your grils into it ???

So, just to summarize this thread, because it took me an assload of squinting to get through your wall of text:

You would like to play with your wife, but she does not. However, she did accompany you to a game and rolled the dice for you, winning the game in a big streak of luck. This was repeated when you got your Warmachine army and convinced her to play a game against you. Now you wonder if and how we got our spouses to play with us?


Well, I don\'t know. We kinda just played. As for you.... if you asked her, she played with you and decided that she does not like the game, maybe you should just accept it. As long as she\'s not keeping you from playing with your friends just leave her be.

Getting my girl into 40k is a trial just like drawing your gun faster than your own shadow. Simply impossible.

She\'s one of those always complaining about how much time I spent with those little fellas.

Maybe we should found something like a self-help group for all with the same issue...?

But to be honest, I think you sadly can\'t force them to like our hobby.
A shame, isn\'t it? Some of them would\'ve made excellent hobbyists...

I don\'t know, to be honest. I always thought it would be nice if my wife would want to game and paint with me....and for a short while she did. But, it was a weird experience. I kind of felt I lost a little of my sanctuary when she did.

Luckily, her interest didn\'t hold out.

Actually, that\'s quite a good point! But... Since she\'s \"only\" my girlfriend (at least at the moment) and I won\'t see her every day, it might be not too problematic.

So the question is: what burden is easier to bear? A girl disliking your hobby or a girl paying too much attention to it - with all the enthusiasm a girl can come up with, including having \"brilliant\" thoughts like...

You could ask her what she didn\'t like about the games, perhaps you can find a tabletop game more to her liking. Or you might try getting her a cuter mini than this Warhammer stuff to paint.

I was never a big fan of Warhammer myself and think the minis aren\'t very inspiring. Anima Tactics might be more appealing for a female that\'s new to tabletop games. There are no armies, you just have a bunch of individual heroes and just 3 basic sides (good, bad, neutral) to choose from. And the minis are pretty nice, quite often anime style, some original stuff.
And the rules are much leaner than Warhammer, you just get a small booklet.
And you can easily play starter games with just 2-3 minis per side.

I\'d agree with all of this. Try a different game, perhaps a \"prettier\" or more skirmishy one (Twilight pimpage! (Not what you probably think.). Heck, even try Hordes instead of WM. A friend of mine recently bought one of the Anima Tactics models for his girlfriend to paint - the lady in the ball dress with the absolutely ENORMOUS gun. The girlfriend in question likes rpgs but is very timid about the modelling hobby, so if she can be convinced, then there\'s still hope!

Also (and this worked for me), consider working the rpg angle (I assume you haven\'t since you haven\'t mentioned it.) Do they use minis? And if they do, do they use pre-paints or their own hand-painted minis? If they use pre-paints, she might get a kick out of having a more \"unique\" mini that better represents her character (Reaper is a good source of D&D-style minis, as a suggestion), and I know that I really enjoyed having my own personal, painted-by-me mini on the table instead of the crummy D&D pre-paints that didn\'t quite suit. I enjoyed the kudos I got from the guys I gamed with too! Even if they don\'t use minis, you might be able to persuade he to paint one as a souvenir of her character.

As previously stated tho, you can lead a horse to water but you can\'t make it drink. If she really doesn\'t enjoy it, it\'s silly to force her.

thanx for the idea guys i dont wanna force her cuz that wouldnt be cool but is cool we have been together 5 years and im still allowed to paint in the livibn room but the funny thing is my mother in law always ask me to have a mini to paint when we come to visit cuz she luvs model kit hard core
