Casting Materials - UK

Hey folks, I am looking to get some casting materials for things like pouches. I have tried one supplier but they wanted like £200 pounds which seems alot to me for what I require.

Can anyone recommend me a shop that they use? and will I need to use a special tool to remove air bubbles?

Any help would be great and a break down of products would be much appreciated because I\'m a newb to this. :)

Thanks in advance, Tring

In case you don\'t know for simpler stuff you can pull out copies from a press-mould using sculpting putties both for the mould and for the casts.

Resin I presume? Initial setup isn\'t cheap but I think you should be able to do better than that. Course that depends on what was included in the £200 - volumes of resin and rubber and their quality, plus any other bits of equipment.

Anyway, try Sylmasta.co.uk

Assuming resin, this is partly dependent on what you\'re casting (size/volume, detail level, thinner areas) and what resin you\'re using.

Although you can go a lot more sophisticated one can make a decent go at degassing resin using a plastic sandwich box with a hole cut in the side and a domestic vacuum cleaner.

Granddad!
I usually get my stuff from TOMPS

he\'s got several sizes/types depending on what and how much you need
he also has links to the technical data sheets for most compounds he sells too
turn around is pretty quick, P&P is reasonable (last time I ordered anyway)

Tiranti\'s is also a good supplier in the UK. I tried Tomps once and they bollixed up my order something chronic but I\'m sure it isn\'t a common occurence.

For casting tips have a look at Hirst arts It\'s a very useful site for anything to do with small scale casting projects.

Squighunter is also currently engaged in producing some resin bits and bobs so it might be worth shooting him a PM to see if he has any recommendations.

I\'ve used Tomps several times without problems
sylmasta have a good range and a decent how to vid

Tap Plastics have a number of tutorial videos that are very informative, it\'s just a matter of substituting the product you\'re using for theirs

and there\'s Smooth On as well, with some good tutorials
