Canadian painters Get The Boot

I can\'t beleive GW would do this to us Canadians, If we want to participate in painting contests we must now go to Games Day, which is, for a hell of a lot of us, on the other side of this huge continent. Why GW would completely wipe conflicts is a mystery to me, not everyone is a tournament player, and that\'s what it seems like they\'re now catering to, with the wipe of conflicts \"Balancing/defalvourizing\" armies, and concentrating now on Hall of Heroes except the rest of the community.
 If this is what they think is supporting the hobby community then they\'ve forgotten they\'re basic staffer training. This goes against everything the company \"stands\" for, and against those special 10 commandments tell us.

I don\'t think I\'ve ever been so pissed at the company before.

Seriously... these decisions are made by accountants and marketers who have probably never even touched one of their own company\'s products. Just business, don\'t take it so personally, fella.

@yog sothoth, conflict attendancies in general have been slowly dropping for a while. it will save gw a lot of money by not having to pay staff for the extra hours worked doing these.

instead they are going to give some support to independants running similar events.

why have they concentrated on keeping the gamers pleased instead of the mainly painters, because as a business they need to make money and gamers spend more (mikes a magpie, he doesn\'t count)

it\'s a business move, find people in your region holding one of these events and see if they are running a painting comp.
if they aren\'t, then have a freindly chat to them and discuss the pros and cons of how they may benefit fom it.

EDIT nsa beat me to it (because i\'m a slow typing retard)

I can see the business sense in this move.
Unlike the UK with a High Population density a large country such as Canada with a Lower population density is obviously not making the financial outlay viable.

Even in the UK there has been a decrease in the number of Conflicts for a couple of reasons;-
1. Financial outlay. A couple of years ago the hire of the Hall in Manchester for the Conflict was £7000. That meant GW had to sell all the tournament tickets and get all the Day Passes sold in order to break even, let alone look to make profit to cover staff costs. Add to the outlay that you have to arrange transport for the likes of GW sales & Forgeworld and the costs to be equalled rise. (And not all the tournament tickets went that year)

2. There was a recognisable trend in the same names buying tornament tickets to all the shows a trend that GW was trying to discourage.

I\'d suggest that rather than bitch at GW (Ok they are an Easy Target), try to convince the local tournament organisers to have painting competitions running alongside the games.

Chris, Double points for the subtlety of the Pun.

My words will fall on deaf ears…

Maybe Canadians can organize a convention. Why can’t Canada have a convention like Gen Con? It couldn’t be too hard. Even Hattiesburg, Mississippi has a war games convention. No offense to the guys. They didn’t just cater to GW. There was historical, fantasy, Sci-Fi. You name it. I remember back in the old days. You could go to GW and tell them you were having tournaments at your con and see if they would ‘donate’ gift certificates for prizes. The only thing was you had to run the games. There has to be proof that there were 40K tournaments, Necromunda, Warhammer Fantasy Battles…etc…etc. I would hope they held it in BC though.:)
