Wow. I\'m surprised in a way, but at the same time not. I mean, there wasn\'t much time spent making Dark Eldar in the beginning, was there? Some more effort might have helped the whole thing. Oh, and not sticking \'Dark\' onto the front of an existing race and almost going back on their divergence from the WFB races. (Grr. Yes. Anyway. I Will Not Rant)
Most of the people i know with DE only have it because of the 3ed 40k box.
I\'m impresed they decided to put them in the new Eldar codex though. Very much so.
I mean, it\'ll allow them to get some of their fluff more widely known, for one thing, since the DE book may just have been the worst of all the 3ed codices for that.
And the four Eldar races\' fluff is very interconnected, so they won\'t be losing out sharing with each other. A good part will need to be repeated in each case anyway.
Damn but they should put the others in. I\'m not hopeful. I\'d probably have a heart attack if they did. But if this is a precedent, it wouldn\'t surprise me if Exodites and Harlequins showed up in a future Codex now (future-future, yeah, since one non-imperial codex a year, with the foreknowledge of Tau Empires, Eldar, and almost certainly Orks being the first three).
[Oh yeah, and i hate them for bringing out new stuff. Because i have the attention span of a concussed kitten, and it\'s very hard to focus on one army at a ti-Shiny!]
If you\'re interested, Kilik, one of the major motivating forces behind the Dark Eldar is (imo at least) kind of neat:
All Eldar souls are consumed by Slaanesh, yes? DE, unlike Craftworld Eldar, do not wear spirit stones. They try to appease the ruinous powers by causing enough death and destruction to distract/placate them.
Oh, ok, it\'s not that good. But the Cormorragh bit? How can you not like that idea?
Oh, and since they have so little, but such varying background, any innacuracy in the above can probably quite reasonably be blamed on GW! :innocent:
