Camera Batteries

Hello All,

Me again to bug you lol

I am curious on what the normal lifespan for a digital camera battery is. As some are well aware of I recently got a Digital camera, it came with a kodak lithium ion crv3 3v battery. yesterday after a few days of letting the camera sit on the shelf, I go to use it and it is completely dead. I was like noooooooo ITS BROKEN

but after troubleshooting, I figured, maybe it is the battery ... even though it is less than a month old. So I brought the battery to the store, they didnt have any of the exact battery I had so I was pretty disappointed....

I was looking at the battery and it looked like two AA batteries so I went online did some researching and I guess that is exactly what it is. I took the 2 AA batteries out of my TV remote and my camera works perfectly, here are the questions I have though

1.) If the camera comes with a lithium CRV3 3V battery, is that what I should be using, or are 2 AA batteries the same equivalent? (from what I saw online, most people say 2 rechargable AA batteries will last longer)

2.) Does it matter if the batteries are \"digital camera\" batteries, or do any two AA batteries work

3.) Does the brand name of the batteries have to match the camera ( IE kodak camera ... kodak digital camera batteries)

Thank you

You can use any AA batteries you like but your lithium battery should work beter than other types.

High power rechargeable NiMH are a reasonable alternative.

with rechargables you need to ensure that the output is as high as you can get it, (for AA batteries aim for 3000mAh) I would reccomend going to a specialist camara shop and getting advice.

Lithium batteries are always much more powerfull than alkaline

I am still having issues with this camera. The places around town do not sell CRV3 batteries... I bought a 4 pack of Nimh batteries, rechargables. and it just seems that the camera eats right through their charge.

I snapped about 20 pictures after having the batteries sitting on the charger all night long, and the battery logo goes back on saying low battery...

Should I be thinking about bringing the camera back ?

Were you using flash? If you were, expect batteries to drain sharpish.

Still sounds power hungry. I\'d take it back and ask the shop staff to test it. Unfortunately this sort of behaviour is often symptomatic of cheap digicams (used to happen with cheap Kodaks and Fujis we had at school).

Another thing to check is a setting for what type of battery you\'re using. I can\'t remember what device I had, but the battery level was indicated differently for rechargeable vs regular alkaline. You might check the manual for that as the rechargeables may still be charged even if the indicator shows low.

I have a AA battery camera and one of the main factors is the amount you spend on the batteries. If you spend $2 on 4 AA\'s, they will only last a few shots, but if you spend say $8 on four batteries, they should last you a lot longer. The same applies to rechargeablesm, the more you spend, the longer they last..

Different brands of cameras are known as battery hogs. Flash eats batteries.
1.) If the camera comes with a lithium CRV3 3V battery, is that what I should be using, or are 2 AA batteries the same equivalent? (from what I saw online, most people say 2 rechargable AA batteries will last longer)
Lithium batteries have a lot more mAH in them than alkaline batteries. Expect about twice to 3 times the number of pics from a lithium pack than just using 2 AA batteries.

2.) Does it matter if the batteries are \"digital camera\" batteries, or do any two AA batteries work
Most lithiums are similar, most alkalines are similar. \"Digital Camera\" lableing is mostly marketing ploy.

3.) Does the brand name of the batteries have to match the camera ( IE kodak camera ... kodak digital camera batteries)
no. But if you get a recharger unit with the correct batteries, you are often best off with a matching set there. (I just bought a pair of $20 batteries for my daughter\'s camera, only to find they don\'t work - it needs the $45 battery pack. But via \"Batteries Plus\" or similar stores, you can find a no-name battery that meets or exceeds the manufacturers requirements.

Thank you

Another tip is to take the batteries out when the camera is sitting on the shelf. Seems some cameras drain the batteries slowly even while sitting. (internal date/time stamps, etc.)

What\'s their rating? Should be a mAh number listed somewhere on the battery - just \'cause a battery is a NiMH doesn\'t tell the whole story on how much grunt it has.

These days a 2,000 might be considered the LOW end of what you should get. I got four sets of 2,500 PowerEx batteries for my digicam.

Have you checked online, seen if the model is a bit power hungry?

20 pics and dead is waaaay excessive by any reasonable standard, so either the camera is a total power hog or the batteries just aren\'t up to the job. Actually coming to think of it there\'s another possibility and that\'s the charger - some are much better than others.
