Building an Aztec podium

Hi all. I think i\'ve finally decided on my gd base. I\'m planning on doing an aztec styled pyramid. not the entire thing, just the top of one, as in the 2 smallest layers. My question is: what materials can I use to build it? the bottom layer is going to need to fit on a 40mm base, and the layer on top a little bigger than that. the top and sides need to be smooth as im either going to freehand or carve them. i was thinking wood and maybe plasticard on top?

Personally I\'d suggest Cork Cut into Cubes/Briquettes to get the right \'feel\'.
Then Milliput the surface to give a Stone texture, keeping the joints clear of debris.

You\'ve gotta keep your joints clear.
