Brushes

Hello all,

I was just wondering what brushes you all use for painting highlights, for things like cheekbones, or other very small highlights...

i either use my \"bastard brush\" which is a mutilated brush down to a few hairs or generally just use a brush with a uber fine point. the whole key is to load the brush with just the right amount of paint or ink, watered down etc. i really suck at it so what i do is primer some thicker art paper (hot press 80lb bainbridge board) and i test various strokes on that making sure i have the right amount on the brush, which usually i never do and crap bleeds and i use a thicker brush to soak some up quickly. generally practicing on paper before i go ahead on the mini with detailed areas has helped a bit. watering down the paint helps once in a while.

if you mean brand of brush i use any piece of crap with a fine point usually found in game stores but once in a great while art stores.

I\'d use a 5/0 for a start and a 10/0 for eyes and such. I prefer non-synthetic ones for fine painting... what are these animals called in english? I just know the scientific family Muscelidae. :p

Have a nice day,

I use 00 and 000 size brushes for most things. As far as brands go, I use Pro Arte series 100 brushes.

:D

Most of the time I use a round 0 brush. A 00 brush is used for detailing. And for layering on flat textures (like swords) I use a flat 0.

I use Windsor Newton Series 7 whenever I can...BUT.. have you seen what those things cost?..... Damn! Also I have found a few 10/0 brushes at Michaels that have served me well for fine detail work for $5 or so, but they don\'t last long, start losing a decent point after the third or fourth mini. I thought this hobby would be cheep... Oh well, as grandad used to say if it\'s worth doing.......

check these out....

These winsor and newton brushes are what I have.

They were about 7.50 a piece, which doesn\'t seem too out of line.

That is a good price...

Actually, that seems slightly less than I am used to paying and I haven\'t converted from dollars to pounds yet, so that does sound like very good value.:D

I pay 3,20 for my 10/0 and 5/0 brushes - and that\'s Euro.
I didn\'t mean \'sable\', which would be \'Zobel\' in German. I meant \'Rotmarder\', whatever that is in English... :D

Have a nice day,

Hmmm....

Purely through the power of my mighty translator, totally bypassing any intelligence or skill on my part whatsoever, \'rotmarder\' translates as red marten.

I suspect there is not a whole lot of difference between martens and sables as they are both small, bitey, weasely-type creatures treasured for their ability to turn into fur coats and paint brushes.

Must be some kind of evolutionary adaption - like mimikry. \"Don\'t eat me, I\'m a paint brush\". ;)

Given the demand for fur coats and paintbrushes I think this would fall under the category of mal-adaptation.
Almost, but not quite, as bad as being delicious and slow movinglol
