Brush advice plz !!!!!

I\'ve been practicing my painting techniques recently and have started to learn layering and have enjoyed doing it and pleased with the results so far. I look after my brushes by rinsing often during a painting session and then cleaning with a good qualty soap at the end.

But do have a slight worry.

My brushes tend to develop a distinct hook shape after some use. It still holds a sharp point but with a hook at the end.

I am using W+N Galeria at the moment and i think it could be the fact that they are synthetic brushes.

Any ideas?

If so i have just orderd:

a W+N series 7 size 0
a W+N series 7 size 1
liquitex flow aid
liquitex retarder
some special brush soap
a small aluminium palette
a small plastic palette (shallow dipped)

I have been avidly scouring the forums the past week (spent more time here than painting). So i have read a lot about making paint thinner and lasting longer.

I am using a mixture of mainly GW and a couple of Vallejo paints and really need the liquitex stuff.

I thin paint about 5:1 water:paint which seems ok so far. I am getting some distiller water at the weekend as i live in a hard water area, i\'m using filtered cooled boiled water at moment.

anyway, any ideas about why my brushes are hook tipped ?

Cheers.

The W&N series 7 will take care of that problem! :) Syntetic brushes tend to develop that hook sooner or later, but pure sable brushes keep a nice point as long as you care for your brush.

I had an idea that might be the case and that\'s why i bought the series 7 brushes.

will the size 0 and 1 be enough ?

I will keep the galeria ones for mainly basecoating.

Those sizes are plenty good. I use a 0 for a lot of stuff and the 1 makes a good \"standard\".
Hope you have fun with them! I actually found them a lot better to use :)

Yeah, those are good sizes. Try them out first, and you\'ll probably find that they are good for most cases. I use 1, 0 and 000 myself, but a lot of painters use 0 or even 1 as the smallest brush. It\'s a matter of preference.
