Branching out from minis

I was wondering if there were any of you out there that have been inspired by your mini painting and have awkoken the artist within as it were. So much so that you have become a generally more arty person and now do sketching paintings and what have you.

Or maybe you just doodle a bit either way it would be interesting to know what else you do.

I have always drawn or doodled pictures. So painting toy soldiers was inevitable. Most of the time its just cartoon and comic book guys.

Lately I have been messing around with colours.I have caught myself several times drawing with my younger students, but I am actually trying to do some blending with coloured pencils.

I\'ve always doodled, and find myself sketching concepts for figures and sketching ideas when not at the worktable:

this was a concept from the early days of the sculpting project here on CMON

This was a sketch for a 1/35 scale scratchbuild project I was working on (but inevitably slowed down and stopped!)

:) I painted on canvas, long before I got into mini painting. It\'s such an adjustment in the size ratio

Don\'t let Donna kid you, she is (was?) a professional horse portrait painter. And very good at it.

:D Thank you Kevin....you\'re my very own \"fanboy\", which warms my heart to no end... lollol:flip:

and yes, \"was\"...painting on those large canvas was killing my arm joints, arthritis is such a bummer.

Just yesterday I bought some supplies to start doing stained glass. If you really get into the groove art can be endless - everywhere. Watch the DVD Rivers and Tides. Andy Goldsworthy definately \'get\'s it\'.

I\'m currently dabbling in painting canvases, but I find that if i have \"art time\" I still tend to spend it painting minis... so not many canvases get done. It is a nice way to try more abstract painting styles though.

Ive always drawn and been interested in fantasy scifi so painting minis was inevitable. I have always used pencils but I have started dabbling in clored paintings of late.

The best thing I ever saw was a guy called Bob Hope (I think thats his name) a crazy american guy, that kept squirells and other small rodents in his pockets, this videos are all about oil painting, not complicated high art but actually really quick stuff that he\'d knock out in a couple of hours but looked amazing, mountains and trees and all sorts of wonderful things. I got a couple of his videos, that are dirt cheap if you can find them, and have been banging out landscapes ever since, he makes it so easy and hes a really nice guy too, you can feel the goodness just pouring out of him as you watch him create amazing art, well worth a bash mate, you\'ll surprise yourself, I did.

That\'s Bob Ross lol
I\'ve done a few landscapes using his wet on wet technique, I might have a pic somewhere (on PC)

Bob Hope is a comedian btw used to do those \'road to....\' movies

drawings, miniature painting, computer graphics in that order :) I\'ve dabbled in other things as well, like canvas painting and live roleplay weapons :)

As an artist you get around I guess :)

I have done portraits, starting in charcoal, then watercolor, then oils and finally pastels. If money is not an object, take some classes, if like most people, it is, get some art books at the library and start with pencil, then pastels when you are ready for color.

Bob Ross was a great teacher and a great person. He died several years ago from cancer, but you are right, his videos are a great learning tool, not only of art, but also how to teach art. Most art stores have some of his books.

For as much as I want to hate his stuff, I really do like some of what Bob Ross painted. He seemed like a nice fellow and took much of the stuffiness out of learning art.

I\'ve been watching the Bob Ross programmes and enjoyed them.
They have added to my knowledge and shown some colour balancing that is appliable to miniature painting.

Another Painter who\'s programmes I\'ve watch is Charles Evans, who paints in watercolours and had inspired me to use Water Colour pencils. (Fun)
I think that what has made more of an impact to me about his programs and painting is that he\'s based in the North East of England and has painted places that I know well.
