I finally managed to get started on my Hadross faction, and finish the first unit of Deepmen (bases from Dragonforge):

Very enjoyable to paint - very excited to continue with the next unit!

Finished a Calith Reaver, and with that I finished my initial force for Intro sized games.

No tactical thought lies behind the selection of models, it was just a pick of what I had that I wanted to paint. However, once I start playing it will be fun to see how I want to evolve this collection!

I got my first game in yesterday, pitting my Hadross against a buddy's Shael Han on a new gameboard he recently finished. First impressions were great, even though tehf irst game was all about learning the rules. It ended in a 0-0 draw, but we had a lot of fun. We'll be giving it another go this evening!

What did you use for the stones on your bases?
Army looks great btw.

The bases are ordered from Jeff at Dragonforge.

Since I picked up this starter set as well, I figured I'd get the colors knocked out on a House Nasier warband so I could have a secondary force on stand-by for friends who want to try WoK.

I'm definitely going to use your Reaver as a guide for my own taxi crab. What colors did you use for the white part of the shell?

Thank you - I started with a mix of bone and white color and gave it some gentle washes of sepia. Then I worked the color back to light bone and towards white, using successive layers.

I'm not sure if this is interesting, but if anybody checking this thread out feels that painting is "over their head" I would really recommend checking out "Sorastro's Painting" channel on YouTube. He mostly covers FFG's Star Wars models, but the quality of the tutorials and their basic coverage of techniques and colors is really, really good! Just pick the tutorials with color schemes that cover your own basic choice and he'll get you up to speed!

If you have the basic skills squared away but want to challenge yourself and develop - check out James Wapell's blog, his tutorials, and consider some of the video tutorials he sells. In fact, I just watched the Shaded Basecoat and Washes & Glazes videos (the two basic tutorials in his "system") before starting my WoK projects, and his influence has made painting Hadross even more fun!

I guess the motivation for this post is that I often meet people who love miniature games and painted models, but who believe getting decent results is out of their reach. I think that is a shame, because it is just not true. Decent tabletop quality is within reach of everybody in a reasonably short time - and not only does it make the games far more enjoyable, but once you get the basic hang of it painting is very enjoyable.

I know it still isn't for everybody - but if your curious don't let the belief that you won't succeed stop you!

I managed to wrap up my Carcharians this morning!

Great models, I had a lot of fun painting them! The plan is to knock out the Frenzy Chargers and Gar while I'm at it! Looking forward to giving them a go in a game!

No. In fact - my only complaint about the Carcharians is that the bulkiness of the troops is not echoed in Gar and the Frenzies... making them look a bit lean and "wussie" next to their Infantry models.

Found some time in between some other projects to knock out the rest of my Carcharians!

First up the Frenzy Chargers:

And then Gar the Gladiator:

So... I'm really torn between adding three Sevridans in order to have 6 of each troop... to paint the three characters... or to hit the Orsund Cavalier which is assembled and ready on my desk...
