BFSP Quality

Are the plastics in the Battle for Skull Pass set of a much poorer quality to the ones sold in the regiment box? Aren\'t they the same figure with same pose etc.?
I assumed they would use the same moulds but I heard rumors that the BFSP box set is of a much poorer quality. Anybody know anything about this?

I tried searching for answers to this but wasn\'t successful. ???

The basic answer is Yes they are of a \"lower\" quality than the standard plastics.
However what you need to remember is that the BFSP is an entry level box set designed to get kids addicted to the hobby of gaming not painting.

I\'d disagree with that to be honest.

They are not the same figs as the ones in the regiment sets and are mostly single piece models rather than multi-part but I wouldn\'t say they were lower quality.

In fact I\'d say the Goblins are better than the regiment set ones. Particularly the archers. The BFSP Goblin Archers are beautiful figures. And the figs aren\'t all the same. I think there are about 5 different spears, 5 different archers and the three command groups are all different to one another.

The Dwarfs aren\'t quite as nice as the goblins but aren\'t at all bad. I like the handgunners especially.

If you\'re into Dwarfs then I wouldn\'t necessarily go Skull Pass but, if you like the Goblins Skull Pass is a no-brainer. The figs are better than the regiment set and far, far cheaper.

I tend to concur with SJB here, altho there is a more limited opportunity for conversions with the bfsp goblins they are really nice models and i thoroughly enjoyed painting them. Also with the dwarfs they aren\'t as nice as the single boxes but none the less are all nice models.

Great thanks! I was mainly buying it for the goblins anyway. In particular what are the differences between the night goblin spearmen and the spider nights compared to their respective regiment boxes?

Not much difference in the Spider Riders. Different command models mainly.

As for the regular Night Goblins, the only major differences are that the Regiment set allows you to make units with hand weapons and has options for Netters. Oh, and the archers you make from the Regiment set look awful.

Just got the goblins earlier today. I like their default color scheme (black robes, green skin) but I don\'t know how to layer black?
What colors do you use to gradually build up the highlights but retain the deep black on the cloth? Also if I primer black does this act as my base coat too?

If you\'re painting black, use a coat of thinned Chaos Black over the whole model after priming. You\'re bound to miss areas while spraying, and different black paints are lighter or darker than others, so if you simply touch up some areas it will stand out.

I like adding in a small amount of grey for highlights. You could add Shadow Grey which will keep the highlights looking dark and cool, or go with Codex Grey for a neutral grey tone.

Yes. That\'s why I like it so much (my favorite color actually!). Since it is a cool color it keeps the highlights looking dark, and makes for an effective black.

If you are going to highlight any lighter than 50/50 Chaos Black and Shadow Grey I would add a neutral color such as Fortress Grey to that mix rather than more Shadow Grey, as then it might end up looking too blue.
