Best / worst mini to assemble?

What is your best / worst assembling experience ( preferrably GW mini\'s )?

I\'ve heard some pretty bad stories about the Necrons pariah\'s...

Please tell me, perhaps also the reason why?

Thanks!

Sister of Twilight on Dragon

Worst fit on any mini I have ever assembled. I spent about 6 months of and on filling, sanding and prepping. Now that I\'m painting (or trying to get around to painting) I am seeing all sorts of little mold lines that were missed.

Otherwise it is a pretty cool mini personally.

Crappy fit is a common illness of lots of minis... Worst I had in that regard was a Dark Elf Cold One Chariot... absolutely NO two parts fit together! the main axle was warped and bent on two planes, the railing of the platform left huge gaps... total desaster! But that\'s technicalities.
Worst concept for metal minis have to be the big three Tomb Kings minis: The Catapult is just a bitch to assemble with lots of heavy parts, so even pinning won\'t assure it\'s all in line with the rest.
The Giant has the same problem... you basically have to glue on both (single) legs at once, or the guy will have some really weird hip problems. And usually you\'re one arm short for that.
But the Scorpion takes the cake. Claws not counted, you have six (!) single, very thin legs to glue into very flat holes. He will probably only touch the ground wih three (max.) when you\'re done. And only two might actually fit on the base. Probably the main reason why people always assemble the scorpion as it were digging itself out of the ground... spares them the crap. This guy made me pop a vein. The catapult was more of a hassle, but the scorpion was just plain stupid.

On the upside, I\'ve always enjoyed the versatility of the plastic Space Marines. Easy to clean, build and convert... But I play those guys, so I might be biased... :D

Sticking Thorgrim together really sucked. The arms just don\'t fit the bearers as they should and require all sorts of work.

The metal Balrog was a swine too. Anything big and metal to be honest. I seem to remember getting annoyed with the Kandish chariots too actually, but I think that was down to having a bad batch of glue as much as the models.

Hmmm... For worst of what I\'ve done I\'m torn between the Empire Griffon (not Karl Franz\' Deathclaw, though that thing is truely hideous), and the Bloodthirster.... but in retrospect they really werent thaaat bad.

For favorite... Hmmm... I do like playing with space marines, they\'re nice (but every now and again I just cant get a post I want to look right...). I think the new Empire mounted general is a blast (the one on foot is good too as long as you do him as the standard bearer, hes to static to be a captain).

Also agree with the GW Dragon w/Sisters I still have them here and the dragon\'s feet in mid way of being resculpted. The WOTC dragon was 50% harder at least

I gotta agree, the metal Balrog was a pain in the arse. But the worst for me was PP\'s elephant looking beast form the Skorne battle group. Dear god that thing had no less then 12 parts and not a single one fit correctly. Gaps so large in the way the body fit i could stick a finger through the hole. i ended up having to fill the empty body cavity with several ounces of air drying clay before i could sculpt over the holes.

Hmmm, how about other than the WOTC BD, anything from privateer press. As I have said before Lenny from Of Mice and Men must design how those figs are cut.

This stinkin\' thing

It has all those separate heads and it\'s one of those where superglue sticks everything (especially fingers) apart from the metal!

I had to pin it, superglue it, Araldite it, then hold it together overnight with elastic bands!

It\'s the weediest monster ever. If a snotling sneezes at it on the battlefield, then one of its heads will fall off!

Virtually any GW multi-part - fit is non-existent and parts nearly always miscast/warped.

Anyway got a suggestion for you which I tried recently with success.

Problem is:
Super Glue - Great quick bond but shears v easily if knock
Araldite rapid - Brilliant strength but dries too slowly

So I combined the 2. Put SG on the pin and v thin layer of AR on flat surfaces (To avoid squidging out). Worked a treat. SG bonded quickly to hold piece in place whilst AR dried and gave strength

Citadel\'s old Rock Dragon.
Mine is in bits for about the 20th Time.
Only it\'s gonna be an Araldite fix this time.

Yes, I\'ll second that. It\'s one reason I pretty much gave up on GW miniatures. I paint to paint, not to play wargames, so it doesn\'t hurt all that much. I\'ve got plenty of other manufacturers to choose from.

Some of the Rackham multi-part miniatures can be a problem. The Wolfen, for example, seem to always require some putty and sculpting around the joins to make them look like they actually join.

I have a worst 3:

Sisters of Battle Exorcist:flame: This thing took about 6 monoths of just assembly. The pipe organ is horrible for fit. I had to trim, file, sand and dremel the metal, cut myself 3 times. Then I had to trim the plastic rhino hull to accomodate the metal organ pipes!!!! But it won me a gold in 2005 so I guess it was worth it. :D

At the moment I\'m having trouble with the GW LOTR mounted Gothmog - It looks so simple but the damned arm will not fit and stay. The other one that springs to mind is the Skarsnik and Gobbla kit. This was my first real greenstuffing experience and went realtively well but I cant get the bugger to fit on the base. Luckily I\'ve got some ideas for better uses anyway.
