Hmmmmm good question...
This is something I personally need to do more experimentation with as so far I\'ve only really used them with spears and/or javelins. The problem with adding the missile weapons is that it makes them vastly more expensive. If you can justify the extra points and it fits in with your army I\'d add some kind of missile weapon. Fast cav can be a right pain in the arse quite literally. A good tactic is to zoom them round behind a big unit of infantry and reform so you can chuck stuff at them. Your opponent is then faced with two choices: Keep going forwards and have his rear end pelted with sharp stuff or reform so you are in his charge arc at which point you promptly zoom round the back of his unit and continue your posterior barrage.
IMHO javelins are the better of the two choices as they have a slightly longer range than the axes (which make up for it with higher strength) meaning that you are less likely to get caught.
If you can\'t justify the points cost of the shooty bits then at least give them spears and manoever them in for a good supporting charge. Unless you\'re going after artillery crews or skirmishers don\'t be tempted to go it alone with them as the lack of rank bonus will spell doom against most opponents.
I was lucky to have picked up ample numbers of these guys when I got staff discount so I have enough to field several differently armed units. If you want to leave your weapons options open try investing in some magnets and make the spear/axe arms interchangable.
Hope that helped a bit.
