Best vampire movie?

This isn\'t for your favourite vampire movie, try to be objective. I\'m curious what you guys think is the best one from recent years that mostly treats the subject seriously.

I wanted to include as many named options as possible so there\'s no \'other\' but feel free to nominate something else.

\"Nosferatu\" isn\'t even on the list. And Ritual is right, the movie-about-the-movie (\"SotV\" is about the making of Nosferatu, but with a real vampire) is very good.

:)

I like Bram Stoker\'s Dracula...the original romantic vampire tragedy :)

Nosferatu & Shadow of the Vampire are good to :)

Underworld I liked the werewolves more :) :)

Oh, John Carpenter\'s Vampires :p

I haven\'t seen enough of the films to comment on which one is \'best\', but I liked From Dusk Till Dawn :D

Seen most of them on the list , but Lost Boys was the first I one that I saw ( I don\'t think I was even ten), so it has to get my vote.

I like VanHelsing. Not a classic vampire movie, but the lead vampire is soooo over the top, he just cracks me up. Love Lost Boys too, still one of my favs.

Salem\'s Lot isn\'t on the list either.......

Regardless, my favorite has always been From Dusk til Dawn.

Bram stokers for me. Gary Oldman was great as both Vlad as human and vampire.

I first saw Salems lot when I was 13 and it scared the shit out of me, saw it again when I was 16 and it bored the shit out of me!???

Tough choice.

Bram Stoker ended up getting my vote. Scared my ex so bad. She doesn\'t do horror movies real well.

Near Dark is a classic \"What if they were real\" movie.

But wait..... You forgot \"Sundown, The Vampire in Retreat\". Nothing can beat a Bruce Campbell and Deborah Foreman in a vampire movie!!! lol lol lol

It has the best tagline ever....\"There\'s two kinds of folks in Purgatory. Vampires and lunch\".

I just wish I could find a copy of it somewhere.

Now this is a topic I can sink my teeth into! lol

Before the hurricane I had a huge (800+) library of VHS movies started when Blazing Saddles first came out (how 20th century, I know), about 70 were vamp flicks so my favorite really depends on my mood as does which I think is best. I\'m not even getting into the classics, because they are the classics.

In no particular order, and based on differring merits my votes are:

Near Dark \"I \'ate \'em they ain\'t been shaved.\"
Lost Boys (I paid $80 for this when it first hit video and we proceeded to watch it ALL that weekend  lol )
Dracula 2000
Vampires (Carpenter\'s)
the Blade movies
Underworld
Van Helsing

And a couple that usually ended up in my Vampire movie shelves for lack of a better genre IMO:

Cat People (Isabella Rosellini, \'nuf said)
Nightbreed (gorgeous make-up)

Cheese out:

Vamp
Love at First Bite
First Bitten

I know that I have left out a good few that I\'ll later kick myself over forgetting, but I don\'t have my shelf to reference anymore. :~(

I\'ve seen every film mentioned, as well as many that weren\'t.
Near Dark got my vote based on the realism factor.
The films listed are all good, and many put their own spin on the vampire myths.

Most of the films in the poll follow the same \"vampire rules\"... which were basically created by Universal studios in 1931\'s Dracula. They are all great films, but fruit of a poisoned tree.

Incidentally, Universal did the same thing with \"werewolf rules\" in The Wolf Man.

Wow, some good choices and I really needed to vote for more than one, I love the lost boys, but like Wesley Snipes better, so I voted Blade. :)

Salems Lot, I have never seen the movie, but the books is wonderful, it is THE ONLY book that I will not leave open (face down) when I go to bed at night, of the four times that I have read it, I usually will not even sleep with it in my bedroom!
Great book, am afraid to see the movie, afraid it will stink.

i agree - he is just a little bit camp!

the vampires in underworld seemed a bit crap to me. although kate was wondeful (as ever)

i think the best two out of the list (that i have seen)are interview.., and blade. interview has some great stuff in it but blade is funny and gory. great stuff

dusk till dawn is a bit crap but excellent to watch and amusing to boot
