Best Metal Alloy for Casting Minis??

I was wondering if any of you know what is the best type of metal for casting miniatures.

I have checked online and there are a couple of hobby stores that sell white metal for casting minis but there are many different types of alloys with different compositions and I\'m not sure which one is the best...

Based on the information I\'ve gathered, it appears that lead-free white metal is the best. However, I\'ve noticed that there are many different types of \"white metals\" available with different percentages of tin, antimony, bismuth and copper. Any suggestions?, what should I be looking for?

Any help or advice from CMON users that have experience in casting miniatures will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you...

Are you going to be commercially casting minis, or knocking them out on your stove?

If it\'s the latter, you\'ll need something with a reasonably low melting point.

A lot of the time depending on quantities I use old and unwanted metal models and parts .figure because that\'s what models are madeof already must be the right stuff. Cheap as well

i\'ve done some messing with this. i find that the low melting temp stuff makes very hard brittle minis. they are a right pain to clean up and convert.

if your going to do it at home i reckon tin/lead is the best alloy. there are some safety issues but a halfway smart person can work around them. the metal makes better minis. denser and less brittle.

get good quality silicon for your moulds with a high shore. the higher the temp resistance the better too. even if your using lower temp metal it still gives you better life time for your mould.
