Starting a thread to keep me motivated as I've recently just gotten back into the swing of things with painting after a break of several years.
I'm currently going through my painting kit and my model making tools and sorting stuff out on the go so it might be a bit stop and start for a while.
I recently picked up a few nice busts and 1/10 scale heads to get started again with but I've got a backlog of older minis and unfinished projects to do as well.
If anyone has any questions about paint colours, tools etc. Just give me a shout!
First up is the Andrea miniatures1/10 U-Boat commander. The casting was really nice with very few air bubbles and mould lines to be corrected. The only issues I had were with the white metal cast iron cross where one of the sides of the cross wasn't filled with metal in the mould. A quick email to Andrea and a replacement is on its way.
In the meantime I started work on the bust. Also the seam on the cap was full of air bubbles and debris with a mould line running right through the lot. It was a lot easier to remove and redo than to correct it with putty. I just removed and filled the damage with AK grey filler and rebuilt the piping with a length of fine wire. (Not pictured yet)
Apologies for the low quality photos at the moment, my camera rig is still needing sorted out.
As it was clearly based on the "Das Boot" character I wanted to give him a more pallid, tired look than the rosy cheeked example on the box art.
I went for a base of VMC Cork brown mixed with old GW Dark flesh. I worked this up through VMC flat skintone to VMC pale skintone to around a 90-10 mix with white.
For some tone in the skin I went in with some glazes of very thinned purple ink, blue ink and a little crimson around the eyes and lips.
