I give thanks that is something that we Brits don\'t have to live through, it must be one hell of a frightening experience. I hope that you all come through it ok.

I dunno about that.....

We don\'t call them hurricanes or cyclones because these words define rare events. We have shit weather all the time.....Remember Boscastle....just a few weeks ago, a whole village almost washed away...

Thats why in Cornwall/Wales/Scotland etc we build houses out of stone with two foot thick walls:D

However I\'m sure you can relate through women. How you may ask?

Well what else leaves you naked in the middle of the road with your house, car and possessions all gone? :D

Everybody in the path, read that Charlie thread there were some good suggestion if I remember right. Somebody told me they fill up every available container, and evenkeep brand new trash cans for the purpose, with water. If all goes to hell in the proverbial handbasket, pouring off a bucket of water to flush a toilet can be a wonderful thing. Y\'all stay safe:(

Sure Boscastle was a bad deal and only a few days later there was that big landslip up in Scotland, I didn\'t mean that shit don\'t happen over here but events like these evn though they are becoming slightly more common over here they still do not occur as much as the big winds in the US. I did not mean to belittle these events in the UK in anyway.

You are quite right...

I wasn\'t trying to take you to task over it:D

I still can\'t help thinking that the damage would be lessened if, instead of trailer parks and timber houses, a few good, solid stone/brick buildings were built???

That may be a load of old b!@##ocks, but the only piccies we ever get to see are of devastated \'caravans\' and wooden houses...

Sorry, I don\'t mean to play down your weather problems...but there does seem to be some faulty logic going on. Perhaps it\'s just the way it\'s portrayed in the UK media?

Well, to be fair, even bricks are better than matchsticks! You have to smile at the irony of someone conplaining about their house being blown to bits when it was only made from clapboard in the first place! USE A MORE SUBSTANTIAL BUILDING MATERIAL!!! It\'s like people over here (UK) who moan every year that their houses have been flooded. DON\'T LIVE ON A FLOOD PLAIN THEN!!!

In all seriousness though, everyone take care.

That\'s a modern misconception as well. Remember the ice age. I was bloody frozen...:D

aah, but we could get another one, the weather can move in cycles, so we on a theoretical basis could be moving towards one, like in day after tomorrow.

Just that it won\'t happen quite so quickly. I watch Newsround, they explained it all.
