Basing Dark Elves

Mouth of Sauron

I\'m thinking of buying a few dark elf things ( warriors, a hero or 2 etc. ) but I want to base them a bit more original then all my other mini\'s ( grass, sand, some bushes ) so I was thinking of snow with rocks.

Both snow and rocks will be new to me, so please help.

Where can I find a lot of cork for cheap (please no storenames, I\'m Dutch )? I\'ve heard people who just go to the woods and find cork ( or \'slate\'?) but I don\'t live near any woods, so that isn\'t a solution either. I was thinking of gardencenters or something?

For the snow I\'ll just check the site as I\'ve seen quite a lot of articles about it.

I hope you can help me ( and understand my English!:D)

Thanks!

\"Slate\" would be ... Lei (?) in Dutch... also great for DE bases. You can find both slate and cork plates in gardening centres. You can also get cork in bigger art supply stores. For snow, Check out model railroad stores for professional one (or the CMON shop, I got some from here...). The baking soda with white glue also works. Have a look at this:

(shamelessly plugging girlfriends mini ;))
Snow is Baking Soda + White Glue, then more Baking Soda on top when applied. Easy \'n cheap. :D The stones on the base are normal model railroad coal gravel. Since it\'s a variety of blacks and greys on its own, you needn\'t even paint it!

Thanks for your reply, I asked my dad and he said it was lei, so thanks. My mom is getting me some baking soda tomorrow, so I\'ll have to try that.

Awesome painting on that sorceress!

More idea\'s? keep \'em coming!

Be cautious with baking soda. It was all the rage a couple of years ago for doing snow, but there were a few odd reports of it turning yellow over time. These, I ignored. Now I don\'t know whether the baking soda needs to be completely sealed from the atmosphere, or whether there was a reaction with the varnish, but the Cold Ones have been relieving themselves in the snow around my Dark Elves\' feet. Two years later.

You\'d be better off trying some other stuff that\'s designed for the job, glass powder and stuff like that. Can\'t remember any brand names, though.
