Basing Chariot

Hi new here. Liking what I see alot.

My first post is a seek for help I\'m afraid.

I\'ve been painting minis on and off for quite sometime but I\'ve never done anything larger than a Minotaur so when a friend asked me to paint up his Elven Chariot I jumped at the change for a bit of experiance.

However I have no clue as how to bass it. I\'m not looking to do any fancy terrain details. I just want to mount the whole model on one base.

What do other\'s here do for such models?

Mount it on a \'chariot base\', GW have been doing them for a few years now. 100mm/50mm.

To texture it, less is more with something like a chariot. There\'s already enough model on the base.

From what I\'ve seen of the forum everyone seems very helpful and all criticism is of the helpful kind. I use to be on the goldendemon.com board many moons ago. Seems to be gone now. Alot of good people there too.

I\'ll post a pic of it here when I\'m finished.

You could always look here as well for bases -

http://www.dragonforge.com/

Very resonably priced and good service.

One option is to use the \"Cut & Fit\" movement tray from GW.
You can cut the base to a suitable size and then add some 4mm cork tile as a basing material.
Easy solution and GW can\'t bitch about it at a tournament.

I really like your suggestion Dragonsreach.

Might keep that for the next large model I do. If I survive this one. My confidence will be a little higher and that idea would lend it self to a bit of creativity.

I went for your advice Dragonsreach.

Was in local GW store the weekend and the chariot bases are a little narrow for the wheel width of the chariot so got the movement trays. Just have to get the cork, though I will probably keep the base simple. Little static grass and some sand. Finished the chariot and one of the horses. Getting slow in my old age :)

I might post a progress when i get the other three horses painted

A lot of Model Railway shops have rolls of 4mm cork used in their scenic work.
Not particularly cheap, but might be easier to find than cork tiles in a DIY store.

how about some tracks ?

you could do some weeltracks with green stuff that would make the base look unique with little effort.

May the Juice be with you :drunk:

Sorry takin so long to show any work. Was doing holiday cover on site with very limited net access. Plus I\'m still in the dark ages at home with regards to a connection.

Here\'s what I\'ve done so far. Messed up with placing the model on the base. It\'s alittle to much to the left and to the rear. Didn\'t really check before the glue set.

I\'ll post more pics when it\'s finished. I had a few better angles but for some reason my camera wouldn\'t upload those to the PC.

I tried doing some wheel tracks and hoof prints as suggested by DoBe KenoBe but my poor placing of the model obscures it alot. I was rushing to get in place, as was dying to see if I could base it.

I also used the movement trays from GW as suggested by Dragonsreach. I couldn\'t get any cork board as hobby store that stocked it closed at 6 everyday. Again me being to focused on wanting to get it based I used some DAS putty I had. Worked ok but had I used the cork it would have been easy to replace the model.

Anyway learning a lot from this so thats the main thing.

the base looks a little big. may want to re-orient it and pop off a side or two. failing that, you should GS the gaps in the base.
