Basing: before or after painting/priming

Not sure how every one here does their minis, but for years I have always worked like this:

Assemble model. Base the model with rocks, gravel, ect....prime, paint base, drybrush base, paint rest of model. Seal, and then add tufts of static grass or pools of water.

So in what order do you base?

Base is always the last thing I do. It\'s the little reward at the end of painting a model for me, and I find that once your model is completed you can theme the base to it much easier.

This does mean that I never get to do bases though!

If im just doing a sand and gravel base, then i base and prime first. Im im making a larger scenic base, i paint the model separate from the base, and attach both once they are both painted.

I usually try to keep the model in the minimum number of parts possible, to avoid problems when gluing finished pieces.

I\'ll do the complete base (usually a scenic one as I love creating bases), prime an then paint (usually paing the model first).

I almost always do the base and miniature separate. There\'s so much work involved in doing the base that might damage the paintjob on the miniature if it\'s already painted and usually the base would be in the way for painting the mini as well.

I used to base the models before priming this works fine using a black primer but hated doing it when using a white primer as it meant painting the base black again.

However i have now found the wonderous stuff that is black sand so now if im using white i base afterwards and if using black i do whatever the hell takes my fancy.

If its a bog standard base ill base the model and prime then paint together. But if its a special custom or resin base I paint separately.

Posh or standard base, I connect the mini and paint the figure first, usually basecoating the base as I go along, much the same as you stated.
I mount the whole thing on something so I dont touch it whilst painting.
I did do a large dragon which in hindsight could of been done differently:D

Kinda depends on how ellaborate I make the base. If it is regular green-flock-and-some- gravel type base I just do it after I finish mini.

Otherwise base is done completely separately. Mini is painted on separate base, then I remove this temporary base and put it on a dedicated base.
