Bases for Lobotomy

I've got Lobotomy the board game. The miniatures are pretty assembled and are in a sort of slotta-base. EG: View attachment 56448

I was wondering if anyone knew a good way to fill/fix the bases or suggestions on how to base the minis in term of theme / design.
The game is set in an asylum. I was thinking some tiled floors but the issue again is the gaps around the slot and the feet being flush. There's no way to take the minis apart as they are pre glued.

Cut the clot off entirely,.. except for one little "peg" of it extending out from the bottom of each foot. Then,.. build your tile floor to suit your wants/needs,... then put a small dab of paint on the bottom of each peg. Position the mini where you want it, and touch the pegs to the tile floor. This will lave a little paint mark on the tile. Drill a couple of small holes at the painted dot locations. The add glue to the "pegs", and push down into the hole.

I guess that would work although it would need to be done for each mini! And I'd have to find suitably sized bases for them before i painted .

If you want to add a tiled base changing the bases to the rounded lipped bases like those privateer press use will give you a border to ensure the tiled bases look neat. Unfortunately that means added cost of those bases.
I'd cut everything off the feet and drill holes up into those feet. Then superglue pieces of rod into the feet. Paper clips work fine as pinning material so you don't have to buy anything.
If you have bought tiled bases follow Webmonkeys suggestion of dipping the rods into paint and pressing on the base to know where to drill. If you are making your own tiles press the mini into the still wet tiles to leave an imprint. When dry drill out the holes and glue the pinned mini to the base.
Sounds like an awful lot of work I admit but you will save some time trying to make the odd shaped pegs fit into round holes and having to drill enormous holes to account for this. Any time you put into prep work will show in the long run.
