Base sizes?

Hi, just to clear this up for one and all who are confused about the base sizes I need to ask a question.

I\'m entering Youngbloods and my entry is human sized but I\'m not sure if I can enter him on a 40mm base even though he wasn\'t supplied with it, is it allowed?

The issue of basing is still a little fluffy unfortunately. The guidelines for the Youngbloods cattegory say:

Your entry should consist of any single human-sized Citadel miniature either Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, Mordheim, Necromunda, Blood Bowl or The Lord of The Rings, mounted on an appropriately sized gaming base.

So what is appropriately sized? Very unclear!

There was some debate last year over base sizes in certain categories. We have therefore chosen to use the words \"appropriate sized gaming base\" in several descriptions. The intention here is to allow a little flexibility whilst keeping to the spirit of the competition. So, if you want to mount your Terminator on a 40mm base because it \"looks nicer\", you can still enter it in the Warhammer 40,000 single model category. Similarly if you prefer to base your fantasy model on a round base instead of a square one you will not be penalised. However, please note the judges reserve the right to move models that are not on appropriate bases into a category they deem more fitting.

At the end of the day though if you enter the best painted, most characterful mini, a Warhammer model for example, but stick it on a round 40mm base you are still going to win. Last year\'s winner was exactly that, a night goblin on a 40mm 40k base.

You\'d be pushing it if you went over 40mm in size, but up to that you should be fine.

Well fact is, not only do I want the space of 40mm for being able to put terrain on, he\'d fall over on a 25mm base bacuase of the weapon swap. I\'m just gunna have to do it, and since there have been others as you say Lono, and other peeps I spotted in 2004 Youngbloodz with 40mm bases, they have nothing they can penalise me about.

Yes you can. I have had long and protracted conversations with Tom X, the GD coordinator. As long as he is man-sized (supplied with base upto 25mm - only exception is terminators) you can put him on a 40mm. The rules have changed since last year, so the excellent silver winner from \'05 this year would be disqualified \'cos the ork is too big. Here\'s some more discussion:

Seems quite clear to me :

THE YOUNG BLOODS COMPETITION
The Young Bloods painting competition is open to any competitors aged 14 years or under. Your entry should consist of any single human-sized Citadel miniature either Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, Mordheim, Necromunda, Blood Bowl or The Lord of The Rings, mounted on an appropriately sized gaming base.

Models must be single foot figures – no mounted models or groups. This category includes Terminators but other models supplied with 40mm and larger bases should be entered in another category. The judges will be looking for well-painted and well-presented models. Paint schemes should demonstrate originality, imagination and consistency with the spirit of the game worlds.
