Back on the saddle once again

Hi everyone.

After several years of practising other hobbies I've recently regained the lust for dealing with miniatures. Hopefully something that will stick for a while this time..
I'm not unfamiliar with the hobby but far from an expert and I'm always looking to improve which brings me to the purpose of this thread. With all of you painters hanging around I'm confident that I'll have lots of critique and tips on how to do better.

Before my break I was working on my O&G army, trying to create something unique and full of character.
So to bring you people up to date, here's a few old wips.

The above alongside with the rest of my army is my long time goal to finish but to keep me motivated there will be plenty of other stuff posted in this thread.
Atm I'm working on sculpting a troll (call it a version of stone troll if u like) that's half way finished by now. For now I only have a quick reference sketch to show you, no details and seems a bit stiff. The sculpt itself is a lot more dynamic and will hopefully make it in the thread by the end of the week.

So that's it for now.
Feel free to fire away any c&c you have. :)

Cheers!

Kewl stuff! I like how you have "before and after" photos. Most of my early works, I get rid of some how or I strip later on when I find them. Looking forward to the sculpt in progress shots, as I just started doing a lot more scratch stuff myself!

Thx people! :)

@SkelettetS: Sure has! Having lots of interests becomes an issue when your spare time is limited. And starting up a company on top of that doesn't make it easier, really!

Anyways, time for some wips of the troll sculpt. Not my proudest moment but the only way to improvement is practice and I'm learning something from every phase i do. Mostly been working with volumes on the torso and started on refining the muscles. Next up is building volumes and work on the finish on his arms and legs before moving on to face and details. Bought some clay shapers to ease the work on his face which hopefully will arrive before the weekend.

Breaking news!
A humongous creature commonly known as "niece" is wandering around the mid regions of Sweden, butchering fearsome orcs as if they were made out of Lego!

Found myself a little surprise when I sat down at my work space this afternoon. Apparently my minis weren't good enough for my niece and what once were a half regiment of orcs have now become body parts decorating the desk. *Sigh*

I'll see if I'm able to put them together again without having to repaint so much when my lost motivation returns. :p

A quick update with a crappy phone pic. Been trying out some new methods for blending to make the transitions smoother. Not completely satisfied but with some more practice it might come in handy. The main issue is that it feels like the paint dries the same millisecond I apply it leaving me no chance to smooth it out. This no matter how much i water it down. Been starting to wonder if my brush might have something to do with it.

That first orc is excellent. The NMM on the his armor and on the guys gold helmet is really very good indeed. Are you diluting your paints to the 2% milk consistency? dogfacedboy posted me a link that was pretty good on this subject http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH3Qg_OvRk4

Thx. :) To be honest that NMM, especially on the helmet is against all the "holy rules of NMM" with how the light hits the object and such. But I believe it was my first try on NMM when I painted it a few ears ago and from that point it can only get better. :)
As i mentioned I've tried every possible mixture of paint and water without any success. I suspected the brush might have something to do with it but after a closer look on the primed areas I'm starting to think that the old spray cans I have might have given up. They leave a much rougher surface than they did when they were new.

Ok, so I worked on getting the primed areas smoother just to see if it would get easier to blend. Painted up the weapon for testing and it sure was a lot easier than before. In other words my primer is going in the dumpster asap.
Let me know what u think. :) (Again, sorry for the blurry pic)

really sweet but to me the choices of shading the knife is wrong, all the dark is focusing at one point at the middle of the blade.

ugh! fail to explain, here's a picture how i would have done it. probably.

Had a hunch It was all wrong and I actually painted it the way u show the first time. But somehow I thought it looked off and changed the directions after prepping the primer. Can't get a grip on how to paint shiny things. One reference pic is always the other way around than the other and learning the principles of how the light hits the object makes me more and more confused every time I read an article.

Not much painting nor sculpting done the last week. But I've been doing something at least!
Finding it more and more enjoying to sculpt and was gladly surprised when I was asked the other day to sculpt some models for a board game project. It's going to be in 15mm scale which honestly freaks me out a bit but it'll grant me lots of experience.
Besides that I've figured that I need to study and practice sculpting things that requires anatomy skills. Atm I'm really tempted to make some apocalypse survivor models to practice on. I'm thinking characters with different proffesions. With that in mind I sat down and started a concept sketch for the first model.

Meet the early "Homerun Hudson". Going to add grenades strapped to a belt as his primary weapon, hitting them with his bat. Tell me what you think. :)

Been working a bit more on Hudson, getting all the line work done. Btw, have anyone ever told u that folds are a bitch to draw? Looks weird even when u get them right. ^^ Pretty satisfied though with the pose and overall look I think. If u have any critics or suggestions, feel free to share! :)

Hi all.

So this is what I'll have as foreground for my planned sculpture. Only problem right now is that all my stuff, apart from this sketch is miles away atm. Dunno when I'll be able to start working on him but I'll update as soon as I do.
