Autarch war gear question

It states in the Codex that a Autarch can have one 1 handed weapon and one 2 handed weapon and that he can then also have a jet bike, does that mean I can have a laser lance and have a reaper launcher mounted on the bike?

I'm pretty new to playing Eldar, what do you suggest for his weapon options?

My reasoning behind this choice is that I've just got some Shining Spears and I have an extra metal rider which I was going to convert. I'd like him to ride with the shining spears hence the laser lance, then chose the reaper launcher as I mainly play againast marines and it makes mince meat out of them, would I be better off with a fusion gun?

Is the whole Autarch on a jet bike a bad idea?

Autarch on a Jetbike isn't a bad idea. It is a bit of a gambit though.

Putting them with Shining Spears is a perfectly acceptable strategy for a speed based army, but the shining spear itself is disappointing to me. In my mind if you're going to get that close to a vehicle you'd be better off with melta weaponry than with a shining spear. If you're going against marines then using a reaper launcher isn't a half bad thought, but you really have to decide what your Shining Spear unit is going to be for. Are they going to be anti-infantry, anti-vehicle, or anti-MEQ. Using a Reaper Launcher and a Laser Lance is giving the Autarch two different roles. Which is fine if he's on his own (which I don't really recommend) but Shining Spears really don't suit both roles on a battlefield. And since you have to use all of the models in the unit for one purpose, it's best to be geared for that particular purpose. Otherwise you're sinking points that won't get utilized. They're also points put at risk since Shining Spears are a risky unit. Not bad, but either they do amazing things or they fail horribly.

If you're playing against marines quite a bit, never underestimate the power of Power Swords. Shining Spears do get bogged down in melee, and a power sword can help turn the tide.

Thanks for the advice :)

I wasn't planning on buying any shining spears, but just got some for xmas. I thought the repaer launcher would be good to use to thin the numbers before I charge in. My friend who plays Blood Angels is rightly scared of them after I wiped out his rather expensive honour guard in turn 1 a few games ago. There was just Dante left standing on his own, think he thought they would kick ass and win him the match..............shame lol.

I do use power weapons where I can, I have 10 Banshees in a Wave Serpent and my Dire Avenger Exarch has a power weapon & shimmershield. I normally take one if it's an option for an Exarch etc.

We're planning a huge battle using pretty much everything we have, I normally use a Farseer with either the Avatar or Karandras (7 power fist attacks on the charge are pretty handy). I'd never gave the Autarch much thought until I got this spare model, so thought I could do a conversion.

I think I'd mainly use the spears as anti infantry as str 6 isn't much good against marine vehicles. I'd keep them in reserve and then bring them on to counter attack the jump packs that will be trying to reach my dark reapers. Thought the Autarch's +1 to the reserve roll would come in handy for this purpose. When they charge the lances are str 6 power weapons so to me they are better at anti infantry, normally wound on a 2+ and no armour saves. I'd never use them in a small game due to the points cost though. I believe the Autarch gets haywire grenades too, so he can throw them at a vehicle if push comes to shove :)
