Aureo's WIP Thread of Yummy Paint

So I'm' going to finally follow suit and start my own (eventually) long WIP thread. Started painting again last night, did a couple hours on the Reaper model, Seoni. Originally was doing an earthy green for her robes, but decided it wasn't working cause she HAD to have bright red hair (Kahdor Red Base was screaming to be on this model...), so I went with turquoise...lol. I think she looks "druidish" so I'll probably try to do something colorful but naturey too...we'll see how that idea progresses now that I moved to much brighter colors.

Excuse the crappy phone pictures, I'm in the process of...locating...my camera's usb cable and/or card reader.

Okay....REALLY crappy pics....I guess all I'll be able to ask from these is how do the colors look together? Too busy? I'll probably add nmm gold to small areas, the ribbons are purple, and the staff will be dark brown with some other color for the wrapping, and I *may* try an osl thing at the top of the staff in green...but we'll see how ambitious I feel. Now I am off to rip apart the house looking for that dang cable...

yea I like the colors a lot, also very smooth blending, love the lower robe bit and the scrolls that hanging around there. going to do the eyes soon? I'd usually do the eyes first in case i mess it up I can wash the whole mini

Overall it looks like very nice colour choices, I might have changed the purple bands to another colour that is less strong. For me it now becomes a focal point and you "should" have that on the face instead. Really looking forward for you get hold of your real camera to se how the figure looks more in detail, Believe the result will be great.

Just what we need... a Druish Princess....

Looks like a good start for the colors, and a good choice of mini. Keep at it!

Okay I found my cable this morning so better pics after work. And yeah, I know she's not druidish, but had that naturey image in my head...we'll see, it'll probably end up evolving into something else. Lol. Glad to know everyone is liking the color scheme, I always worry about keeping harmony within a model when I chose to use such bright colors....I normally hang out with more neutral tones.

Okay, better pics inc! Multiple works below, Reaper's Seoni, Hasslefree's Gen, and CMON's Female Barbarian.

Not sure what I think about the shadows on Seoni, I think they're too deep in the back, I think I lost too much of the midtone. Opinons?

Gen, I think this is one of my best models so far. Finished her awhile ago, working on her base. Any input on what I might improve next time? This model was such a pleasure to paint, Klocke is a great sculptor, so I plan on painting another one next year to see how my skill has changed or improved. Personally, I think the shadows are too dark on her left thigh/glute, but it didn't look right at the time to leave it lower. I'm working on the base, fish pond, which I'll post soon.

Barbarian chick, I'm a fan of her skin, though I *kinda* think the highlights are too extreme, but it was a practice in doing a light skin and going pretty high on the highlights. I'm going to have to greenstuff that gap at the right shoulder and then repaint the fur.

And now, the pics!

I'd agree with introducing more midtone to Seoni's back, the transition could be smoother. Gen's skin is absolutely gorgeous, well done :)

Got a little more work done, been busy with work so I haven't gotten to pick up a brush much. And side note, I passed my EMT exam yesterday so that is FINALLY a weight off my shoulders. :D

Done a base for Gen finally after a long time of wondering what to do...she was originally mounted on a black cube...original, I know. I'm hoping this base does her a little justice, such a pretty sculpt. I saw a koi theme and a bridge somewhere on cmon, and they both stuck in my head, but decided on the pond ultimately. It feels a bit unfinished in some ways....I'm deeply considering adding a slight bit of water effects to the pond, make it look like she's really dipping her foot in. The fish...my first attempt at freehand. Not sure what else to add in that could give it a more finished look, any ideas are appreciated, and anything you might see that I could improve, let me know.

(Siren pretending to be sneaky to feed her paint water addiction while I'm "not looking"....she's not allowed on the desk but apparently she thought she'd sneak on over...lol)

now i understand the yummy bit :D that Gen is one of the best versions ive seen, great job! be sure to get some ace photos of her in the gallery! i really think you should do some water effect there though, would do a lot to the base which i currently think is a bit meh in comparison to the mini.

i know all about sneaky cats lol

I rather like the base the way it is. If you want to add the feet-dipping-in-the-water, you could do some ripples. Maybe concentric circles going out from her foot. Maybe consider doing wakes for the fish if you go that route.

You could also add some underwater rock illusions and perhaps seaweed/plant life, to help bring the base and ... terrain? together. Something like this, except with less ripples (image is large): http://www.kriyayoga.com/wallpapers/jungle-river/clear-water--dsc04086-wp.jpg

I think concentric circles coming out from her toe would work as well. Anything more than that might make it look a little too busy..

Love the skin tones as well, very cool. Will be awesome when its done!
