One of the reasons it should have been left an idea is that, I think it would have been more creepy. I am not saying it 'was a bad idea' necessarily, but should have just been left to the imagination (and thinking about it know, the cthulhutech minis in the works (supposedly) could be either interesting or grotesque for the same reasons). Sometimes, what isn't visible is more interesting, grotesque, disturbing than what is visible. Also, I for one, would really like to have been able to followup the thought process during the creation of this one, and to know where the thoughts led to after a few days of sculpting. It could shed some light on it.
Khorne is easier to accept, as that mentality is part of world history, is visually accessible everyday top most, via news broadcasts, etc. and is based on aggression; a trait that is becoming more and more embraced in many cultures around the world (but, mostly America has been observed by me). If this wasn't true, than MMA fighting wouldn't near as popular as it is... Sexuality, on the other hand, is not as PC as Aggression at the moment. In addition, aggression is something that, while possibly detrimental, can be understood if seen by adolescents and juveniles, not so with sexuality, for the most part. As part of a hobby that routinely involves younger individuals, this always should be a consideration, but discretion should be used. If they wanted to have this as an 'adult miniature' (kabuki as well), it might have been better to only keep it on their own page, and only advertise/sell socially acceptable (yes, I acknowledge that this varies from location/country to location/country) mini and have a link to their page. At least this attempts to reign the imagery in and make it a 'niche' kind of thing.
Yes, absolutely, diversity a very good thing. But making this kind of thing main stream just seems. . . wrong (for lack of a better word). Using the argument that shocking, disturbing, and or vulgar things should be embraced because it is something different is akin to saying murders should be praised for doing something that can be viewed as controversial in the hopes that others will follow (ok, this may be a little strong, but gets my point across). It also suggests that pornography should be applauded for being different and shocking. In both cases, the actions are embraced by some while being frowned upon by others, but neither situation is considered the norm, and can be seen as taking something too far. I'm in this camp, but you don't have to be. Opinions are like toilets, most everybody has one, but they're all full of...
You can like this miniature, and paint it with care. Be my guest. But the subject matter/certain aspects of the miniature can be viewed as against morals and ethics by some, and questionable to others. And you can voice your opinion, just as I have, but neither of us can persuade the other to liking/disliking it. I don't and never will, but KD has definitely got people talking about it, so whether it is seen as a good thing or bad, it's definitely been a great marketing tool for the company (whether intended as such or not).
I apologize if I come across as standoff-ish, but this sort of thing can really set me off...partially because I have 2 kids and I would not want them being exposed to something like this (again just my opinion).
