Arikania Magic

This is a question for Leif, but I think everyone could give some input in.

@Leif - How would you describe Magic in the "world" Arikania (Wrath of Kings)? Is the Magic easy to use and everyday "mundane" or would you say it's hard to use and rare. Is the magic spectacular to see or perhaps subtle with little visual display.

I believe that Leif & Co. have hinted at magic being fairly common place. It was cited for the lack of common ranged weapons, plus Hadross use it to breathe comfortably above water. I think the reverse is potentially true for the Nasier (e.g. they could use magic for deep sea diving and fighting/raiding their ancient enemies, the Hadross.

The way I envisage magic is it is fairly prolific throughout the world but by no means ordinary. Its also important to know that magic comes at a cost, in some instances it physically contorts the user, tapping into really powerful stuff may drain the life away. Zeti (vampires) in this world are not really about the traditional tropes of hunger per-say, its that they are power hungry, they actually consume human life and store it like a battery to use so that way destructive magic doesn't just ravage them instantly. Less offensive forms of magic are obviously more common and far less lethal to the user, but the bigger the spell the harder it is to make it happen. So I would say most people in world would infrequently see it, however they all know it exists and can be used. The fiction will inform us more about how frequent it is in the future =).
