Anything better than Easy-Off for stripping plastics?

Sorry to start yet another paint stripping thread, I\'ve just been having some trouble with Easy-Off oven cleaner recently. I wondered if there were any products out there that were amazing for plastics - a few strokes of an old toothbrush and gone! (like many metal strippers) Thanks!

I use \"Super Clean\". It\'s a multi-purpose cleaner in a large purple jug. You can find it in the auto department of Wal Mart stores.

Works great for metal and plastic, and only takes a few hours.

Thanks Matt - I\'ll pick some up, does it definitely do a better job than Easy-Off? It\'s the only thing I\'ve used so far, and while it\'s quite good, the paint can be stubborn in folds and creases.

I haven\'t used Easy-Off before, but Super Clean does do an excellent job. A soak for a few hours and then a quick scrub with a toothbrush works great and gets all paint out of the crevices. Some figures might need an overnight soak if the paint is thick.

One thing to keep in mind: WEAR GLOVES. Super clean will dry out your skin badly. My skin started peeling slightly after a bit. It didn\'t hurt me or anything, but just something you\'ll want to avoid by using latex gloves.

Okay, I just tried Super Clean (picked it up from Pep Boys) and it\'s amazing. Yup, better than Easy-Off. Get on the Super Clean train, kids - woo woo!

What\'s a good UK equivalent?
I read the article about using Mr Muscle oven cleaner, but it didn\'t seem to work for me :(

Don\'t think there is one.

Shame, as I just looked into this stuff again and it seems about the best thing out there.

Sometimes it just doesn\'t seem to work as well as it should. Had a problem stripping metal figs once and after trying oven cleaner even acetone didn\'t really work properly.

In the UK you could go into an auto parts shop, and ask if they have any powerful degreasers / cleaners that are plastic safe. It removes grease, oil, wax, tar, and dirt. Paint too obviously, but the bottle won\'t tell you that. To help further, it\'s made up of:

Water, 2-butoxethanol, nonyl phenol polyethoxylate, sodium xylene sulfonate, and sodium hydroxide.

I\'m guessing it\'s that last ingredient that does the business?

Oh, and if stripping metals, just go into any hardware store and buy a regular can of industrial stripper. Not plastic safe, but with metal the paint just falls off.

Hey Guys I use Simple Green, there is now a UK distributer for it http://www.simplegreen.co.uk/ its not exactly cheap but get a couple of you to place an order together as I did its not so bad and compared to nitromoors its a bit cheaper its partly reusable (the same mini dip can be used a few times) and it wont kill you by inhaling the fumes)or blow you up if you have a ciggi :flame: and you can wash it down the sink. I will say it does take a bit of elbow grease with a stiff brush and a thick needle but hey it strips plastic minis :D

Er, what\'s wrong with Dettol? ;)

That actually will do some good dumped down the drain (paint residue notwithstanding).

Personally cheap and effective (and easily available in any supermarket!) wins out over any issues with the odour. I quite like the smell of Dettol anyway.

I quite like the smell of Dettol too, but THAT hasn\'t worked for me either - maybe the plastics I\'ve got have been painted with a futuristic substance that is impervious to chemicals ??? :(
