Another stab at light-sourcing.

The pic ain\'t as hot as I\'d like (too dark), but here is my second attempt at light sourcing. some of the more subtle are lost in the black, but overall I\'m quite pleased for a quick practice mini. Any suggestions? the whole point of this mini is to improve, so lay it on me!

Think it looks good...

DM,
I think it looks like a nice light sourcing job, but the image is so dark on my monitor that its really hard to tell.
I can see the tones on the top of the hood and shoulders, but really can\'t tell much at the end of the gun.

Would help if you could brighten it up a bit. :(

Cheers,
Grumb

Firstly, good attempt.
I think both the highlights and the source lighting are too dark. However, for the darkness of the mini its about right, but the mini is too dark, and the light source is too dark.

I\'ve seen Victorias stuff up close and it really seems that less is more. In the area you want the source lighting you need to go quickly from dark to very light (although it should be liughter than the light source itself), and keep the area small, ie so its just the highest edges. The effect should be dependent upon the reflectivity of the surface, so more pronounced on metal than on cloth.

Maybe I should try to have a go at this and see if I can put the theory into practice, but I do think its one of the hardest techniques to do right.

Yeah, the pic is just a bit too dark to see all your subtle (right?:)) shading on the robe and stuff. Try to crank your lamp arm around so it\'s slightly under the mini, god or angry wrench wielding maniac willing. :)

But still it\'s an awesome mini, James! You\'re definitely getting better at the lighting effects, and the flame is spot on.

hmm...

Where exactly is the lighting source? Is it the flame on the gun or ontop of the head?

I think it needs more drastic hightlights to make it more obvious.

You are certainly moving in the right direction though!!
