An Attempt on Sculpting.....Vampiress Bust

After seeing many great sculpts around here....I have become motivated to try it myself.

I have used Super Sculpey for the bust.

Inspired by some Lahmian art from GW, I spent most of Saturday working on the bust.

The most difficult task was to try and get the mouth and eyes right....and it seems I still need some work -_- for I can't seem to get the proportion right.

As this being my first sculpt please be as harsh (and gentle) in the criticism. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for looking

The thing I had to chew on before it hit me, is that her eyes are essentially where her forehead should logically be. I reckon if you sort that out, you'll be a good whack on to nailing it. As for everything else it's a brilliant go for a first sculpt!
I'd recommend checking out tutes for faces in figure drawing (should be easy to pull up on the web), that'll tell you how to nail those proportions, pretty much. Lastly, as with all things, just keep going. Practice makes perfect and all that. Terrific first go though, well done!

I'd concur. It looks like the sculpey is nicely worked, but it's the proportions being out of whack that throws it. A google on "human proportions", or a session at the library/bookshop for something in that vein would be of immense help in that regard. Humans and especially faces are the most noticable when things are just a little bit wrong, it's part and parcel of that whole "uncanny valley" thing. Working from a model is great, and plenty of pics online to borrow from if "those" sites aren't blocked. But just being aware and observing the rules that govern facial structure would soon have that part of ones mental toolkit and no need to draw upon reference material so much.

Keep in mind, though, that if you're doing a vampire or something like that, the "uncanny valley" can work to your advantage - small variations from human norms can have a powerful creepy effect.

As first sculpts go, a great start! Don't quit now :)
