Alternative color scheme for Vampire Count?

I\'m painting a Vlad Von Carstein which normally would have a red cloak like this:

But I want to try a kind of \"spectral blue\" look instead. Should I keep the rest of the mini in the same black and gold?

I hate messing up a color scheme and having to repaint. :)

Blue and gold are a spankin\' color combo. I think it would look fine.

One think you may want to be careful of is how you do your black, though. A lot of people work blue into their black when building contrast. That\'d be fine but you\'d want to be careful you didn\'t clash the blues or flatten out the whole mini with too much blue. Should be fine, but something to be cautious of.

Go nuts and post WIP pics. =)

Thanks Arogers, I\'d hadn\'t really considered how to highlight the black. Perhaps Shadow Grey might work.. or would that be too dulling?

I\'m forever trying non-standard color schemes and they usually don\'t work out! :~(

I\'m fond of highlighting black with Sombre Grey...it\'s kind of a purpley grey that lends itself well to highlighting black...lending a coolness to the black without tipping far into the cartoony look of using blue.

Also, bleached bone really calls out to me when highlighting black as well. It\'s a good neutral color that goes well with most anything...warm.

I\'d maybe say sombre grey for a blue cloak to tie together the whole shebang, or try bleached bone for a little contrast between the main armor of the figure and it\'s cape.

Had some thought on this.
Black can be a very bland/neutral colour at times which is why it works so well as an offset against Gold.
If you are intend on doing the cloak \"Spectral blue\" why not balance the gold with Red washes (blood tinges) and that way you could add Red Ink into the Black to increase the Bias towards the red end of the spectrum.

Might want to try it on something not as crucial first.
