airbrush freindly paint?

hi guys
last year i bought an Aztec airbrush...im not sure what model it is but ive had some nice effects with it with watercolours (before for whatever reason the compressor got left on by someone, not me, and the motor burned out, havent been able to get it fixed since but ive found a supplier of gas canisters in the meantime) the question i want to ask is are the games workshop paints suitable for use with an airbrush? im still very new to the airbrush.
any brands of paint anyone can suggest would be appreciated.

I tried doing that with GW scorched brown in my Badger but it just clogged up every 20 seconds or so. It was either that or it was so thin that it just ran as soon as I sprayed it.

I suppose I ought to try using an airbrush next time and leave the local wildlife alone.....

Gunze Sangyo. Period. They\'re a little tough to come by these days but they are hands down the easiest airbrush paints I\'ve ever used. They\'re alcohol based so they flow very well when thinned. Cleanup is quite easy too. If you can\'t get these then I recommend Vallejo Air. Not as nice but effective. These are water based paints so you won\'t find them quite as effective but good enough just the same.

Practically everything that can be thinned to the right level. As long as the paint type (or individual colour) is not gritty or dries too quickly.

I\'ve airbrushed successfully with artists\' acrylics for many years (which are roughly the consistency of toothpaste to begin with) and I\'ve seen a demo of oil paints being airbrushed and they\'re thicker still.

If you find you have to thin something a lot more than you really want to, for it to go through the airbrush properly, then simply drop the pressure and build up colour in layers.

What Enion said.

ditto.

I shoot Createx which is an acrylic paint. Comes a bit thick but thins nicely with water.

I aslo shoot airbrush makeup (body/face paint) from Fantasy Faces - not suitable for minis, but the kids love it.

I\'ve shot cake coloring, Testor\'s model paint (enamel), fingernail polish (laquer), two stage ureathanes and epoxy paints. If you can thin it, you can shoot it.

Mostly a matter of finding the right consistency and building up layers slowly. Keep your air pressure to a minimum to avoid spidering. (guessing on the aztec at about 8-12 psi - Enion?)

I shoot as low as 4 psi for fiddly bits on a helmate and as much as 60 psi for t-shirts.

Some paints need to be filtered before using in your airbrus. Remember, the opening in the cone is less than a milimeter (0.3 mm in the HP-B) with a needle taking up much of that opening. Any hard bits will not go through.

I cut a 1\" square +/- out of one of my wife\'s old pantyhose. My mixed paints are in 4 oz flip top bottles. Remove the flip top. Place the panty hose square over the bottle top. Screw the flip top back on. Now you have a filter for your paints.

I never had experience with water-based paints but years and years ago when I was doing military vehicles I used Tamiya thinned with lacquer thinner and sometimes Tamiya thinner. I had some cheap Badger airbrush before...don\'t remember which model.

airbrushing acrylics

You can spray GW paints if you then them with Tamiya acrylic thinner, about 50:50 DON\'T use water - it doesn\'t work. I\'ve recently also used the Tamiya acrylics with their own thinner, and Revell\'s Aqua Colour acrylics. I like these: they\'re cheap £1.50UK, cover well, spray well with Tamiya thinner and brush well. Ideal consistency for any paint to be sprayed is about that of milk. Should run down the side of the jar, but leave a \"trail\". Don\'t waste your money on gas cans. Go invest in a cheap compressor. I got my 1.25hp Clarke Bandit with a 24 litre tank in Machine Mart for about £80UK (that\'s about 10 20oz cans), and it\'s damn good. They do all the other gear you\'ll need too for next to nothing: hoses etc. They also do airbrushes that are perfectly serviceable for most people\'s modelling needs. Their Badger 350 clone is about £9UK and their double-action Badger 150 clone is only about £30. At that price they\'re almost disposable. I\'ve used both and they\'re just as good as my long-serving Badgers.

I\'ve had good results with Reaper Master Series paints thinned 3:2 with original blue Windex. I\'ve used it for 3 resin busts so far.

Since then, I\'ve bought a bottle of Golden airbrush medium, so I\'ll be trying that as an alternative to the Windex.
