Here's a night lords test piece. View attachment 9769
im stopping here. i dont see much point in going forward with it when i'm not really happy.

i think the cylinder that isn't firing for me is the blue and lightning bolts.

the lightning is kinda lacking in vibrance. do i need to pick up some GW blues to compare? the blues used were VGC magic blue and electric blue.

also how would you go about making blue look more "evil"?

c&c please. also let me know what you would rate it outta 10 based on the parts that are finished.

thanks

Air head is right, your green lightning has a halo and a bright core, which makes it pop. Also, the green is set off by a black background. If you notice on the GW mini, the transitions between the dark dark blue and the highlight are much more abrupt than yours (though your color transitions are good, just not fast). So the lightning contrasts with the darkest blue. Finally, and this is just my own bias, but the light glow from the eyes never really looks good, even when done by artists who are far more skilled than I. That being said, if you are going with a source-lighting effect, the you have think about how source light affects the whole mini-doing source lighting on the eyes, but not using it anywhere else, just makes the eyeglow look like warpaint. Again, this is just my aesthetic.

it´s hard to make blue look evil, but adding red is good. white and blue is a bad idea, classic angelic colours. i´d try and make the blues look darker and more evil, perhaps add a tiny bit of purple?

View attachment 9773finished. i think it's pretty good, i'll see what rating it gets before i decide to do a whole squad or army.the lightning is tricky because if you highlight the armour with light blue and then try to use the same light blue for the lightning it all sort of just mushes together. i think next time for the lightning i would mix the blue with scorpion green to make it stand out even more.

For an evil look I would go on dirty purple, yellow or turquoise, with no white highlights. Maybe light blue (Ice blue) mixed with turquoise for highlights and dark purple for shadows...
