Advanced Modeling/Conversion Conundrum

I have a bunch of ideas for modeling my Warhammer stuff with that said i've been doing my research from articles, blogs, tutorials, friendly chats an the such. However im having a hard time finding tools & materials to begin. I have gone to 4 stores that i thought would cater to my needs but it turns out that Burnishers, plasticard, green/brown/grey-stuff etc.. are hard to come by >_< so it seems that i'll have to get everything online.

Here lies another issues is that im not personally at all familiar with these items/tools or there size an uses. Even though i have read a myriad of articles to prepare myself, Im still quite overwhelmed @_@ my heads spinning. I wish i could hit-up a store clerk an ask question on how to work these tools, or perhaps a demonstration/application.

On-lines site that I've looked up are micro-mark(going to pick up drill bits an maybe tools), ebay(just cause things are cheaper), Hobbylinc(tons of good stuff but there layouts crap), Plastruct (plasticard/Styrene sheets). IF any one have a one stop On-line-store then plz do post it.

I understand that with time an experience i would be able to sculpt like Scibor or any of you awesome guys on CMoN so I'll leave out asking on 'how to..' question but i would like to know what advanced or unconventional tools do you use? Dont follow up with Dental tools or Rubber stubs but if you must please do add a link along with so i dont have to scrounger the massive Web to find it.

Thx.

A good place for getting modelling materials, tools, putties, etc. is Antenociti's Workshop. It is based in the UK. The only thing I can think of that seems to be missing are sculpting tools. They have clay shapers (the rubber-tipped tools), though.

tbh i make most of my tools. i like the gw one and clay shaper (link in ritual's post) though.

there are a couple of good options for making them. if you have the tools, either buy cheap metal sculpting set or sewing needle from hobby stores. you can then grind them down into the shapes you want

or you can sand a wooden stick (sizes ranging from cocktail stick to bamboo sticks) and the superglue it, then sand again to get really smooth

And making your own tools is much more satisfying than buying them, you get exactly the shape you want/need and you get that warm fuzzy feeling when you have created something usable. Of course, if you don't know what your needs are it is harder to create the optimal tool for it.

thx for the site Ritual but ouch the prices are eru an its going to hurt my american wallet either way I will pickup a few items like the Embossed Styrene; Gf9 have basic hobby tools an i do have there Micro Files set and brass rods though i cursed myself one day when i enter a Home Depot an saw there true value >: (

Chrome & freakinacage could you guys possible elaborate as in what form, uses, purpose the tools you are constructing; Ive got admit it never occurred to me that i could make* my own tools beside gluing sandpaper to a toothpick :)

In general im just looking for tools that can manipulate Green Stuff but would like a Variety of Clay Shapers, picks or whatever

If you have a Michael's nearby they're worth a shot for some tools you can use for sculpting; like these for example, the cheapest ball-ended tools I've seen. Quality is fine, I'm giving a set a test drive now.

That's what we're here for :)

...site that I've looked up are micro-mark(going to pick up drill bits an maybe tools)...
Good idea to compare Micro-Mark's prices to the sites mentioned in a few prior threads, e.g:
New GW Tools + Kit
Inexpensive Needle Files at Harbor Freight
Dremel Polishing Pins

Lots of previous threads have links provided to previous questioners on where to get various things (as above).

Specific vendors aside, for wax carvers and dental tools eBay is a very good place to look; if you get lucky that's where you'll fine the lowest price. But you do have to shop around as the number of tools in the set - and, importantly, their quality - varies a great deal.

For colour shapers/clay shapers other than eBay where you're already looking any online art-materials vendor (like Dick Blick, who will often be cheapest) is the place to go to find them.

But as already mentioned, don't overlook homemade sculpting tools. You can make a host of really great tools that cost practically nothing from common household items like cocktail sticks, old brush handles, lollipop sticks, wooden dowel, the handle of an old toothbrush... you're only limited by your ingenuity and imagination.
