acrylic mediums

I bought liquitex flow enhancer and I have golden acrylic retarder. I would like to make a batch of thinner to use with my paints. What ratios would you folks recommend? Also any ratios for outlining, shading, and glazing would also be appreciated. Thanks.

as long as the retarder is not the gel version...

I use about
25% flow aid
25% retarder
50% water

or
25% flow aid
25% retarder
25% airbrush medium (to add more binder)
25% water

But I live in Florida where it is humid. Work under air conditioning and lots of light. Depending on the season, I may cut the retarder back or eliminate it.

As to ratios vs. paint, that depends on the layer and the paint and the color. I use mostly Reaper Master Series.

Paint vs. reducer
Base coat (shadow color) about 1:1
Mid tone also 1:1 or maybe 2:3
Highlight 1:2

Well, I\'ve used:

1:3 flowaid:water

then

1:1:2 flow aid: slo dry : water

Now, usually, its a small drop of 25% flow aid with water once in a while when I really dont want \"drops\" of paint somplace. Mostly just water now.

1:1:15 liquid retarder, W&N flow aid, water for me.

That gives me about 5 minutes working time during our dry winters, and more than enough during our wet summers.

More flow aid seems to make no difference, except for a tendency to foam if I do something silly on the mini, like wash chainmail.
