Is it just me? ......It could be just me....

But...

Why are there so many minis being presented as a rear view??

I can understand if someone has just freehanded the Mona Lisa on the back of a cloak or some other valid reason. But at the moment it appears that every fourth miniature is presented as a rear-view shot.

Please, please don\'t do this as it is very irritating.

It could be just me as I said, but if it is, then it will be only me who allocates a \'2\' or \'3\' to every offending mini from now on (Unless there is just cause):D

It\'s not just you. It\'s because many of the site\'s newer members (and a few older ones who should know better!) are habitually posting 2-3 different views of the same mini as different entries.

Please learn to make a \"collage\" if you wish to present more than one view of a mini! It\'s not hard, and the most rudimentary image-editing software is all that\'s required. I\'m with finn, these postings are *not* getting high marks from me - I won\'t vote-bomb you but you won\'t get any favours from me that\'s for sure.

I\'ve noticed this tendency, too. I can understand wanting to show both sides of your mini, but it really isn\'t that bleeding hard to use just about any image editing software to stick both pics together.

I\'ll join you in the vote! ;)

Guilty, as charged!:( But Finn, it was done out of ignorance and the many requests emailed to me for a rear view shot. I was too stupid to understand how to merge several views in a single frame until just recently....with the help of many on the forum who came to my aid. I promise not to do it any more and I\'ve deleted many duplicate views, but I\'ve lost my votes and the nice feedback that went with it. Does anyone know how to update only the photos without losing the current status, i.e., votes and comments? Armed with the new knowledge and single- framed views, I would like to update my \'Photos Only.\' Is it possible?
Sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused.
:(

I don\'t mean you Faye!!

Faye, I\'d be happy looking at the bottom view of your minis:flip:

I am quite happy with a rear view of any well executed mini where such an angle has something to offer. I am referring to the increasing number of what appear to be well below-average minis presented in this way.

Some, I have seen recently, appear to have been little more than just primed. Now, if I wanted to look at the back of a primed mini I don\'t need to log on to CMON to do so as I have a few thousand at home:D

I agree, Faye. Your stuff isn\'t one of the \"offending\" pieces, as far as I\'m concerned. Besides, like you said, you\'ve seen the \"error of your ways...\" ;)

The kind of shots that I think Finn was referring to (and that I am) are of what might be a 5 or so mini, but nothing but its back. Until the 50 vote algorithm went away recently, this was a real pain in the arse, since I\'d typically find like 3 or 4 in a row of the same butt-shot of an out of focus model. Like this one: 45539 :flame:

As for updating photos only, I\'m not sure if you can really do that. One option (though I have not tried this, so can\'t verify) is to use external web hosting for your images. You could, conceivably, update that image and it would be reflected here. As long as it\'s the same name, it should work, at least in theory. But, like I said, I haven\'t tried it!

Phew!

I recently have gotten my picture taking skills to a level I\'m pleased with, and will be finally posting some pics on CMON. I was going to be doing the angles separately, as I didn\'t know how to combine them. However, this thread motivated me to go further then just posting arse-shots, and I went ahead and figuered out how to combine them. I have so many peeves about viewing minis on CMON, I don\'t want to break them myself!

Hosting your images on a website does work, if you want to update the images later. Just save over the old file on your webpage, and the new image will propigate to CMON. Works the same way if you use external web files for sales on Ebay, which will allow you to post extra images without paying through the nose for them.

One caveat - if your web server crashes, your images go away. Some jerk was intentionally crashing the web server I used, which was duced inconvenient when I had a sale going. :flame:

As far as the abundance of \"butt views\" is concerned, if we politely point out to the offenders that there is an article on CMON that shows how to do this type of editting and tells where you can get a shareware image editor, that would probably work better than posting on the forums.

I\'d be willing to bet that a lot of the \"offenders\" are newbies that don\'t go in the forums section.

The reason behind my post wasn\'t an expectation that behaviour would change, just a wild, spur-of-the-moment rant to let off steam:D

If I had the patience of Jobe I would spend time \'politely pointing out to offenders the error of their ways\'. The problem with this however, is a huge number discover CMON, post their entire mini collection and then promptly bugger off. I tend to wait for folks to \'prove themselves\' by hanging around for at least a few months before being willing to spend too much time giving advice.

It is easy to check when a member was last active on the site and I always do this now before engaging in a one-sided conversation.

as for me

I have posted the back of a mini. The reason I did it was because I felt like the back was worth looking at. On top of that I simply cannot figure out how to show both sides and stay under 100K. I can do the editing to get all sides in the view, but it runs about 150K.

It was all for naught anyway. The pic came out blurry and completely defeated my purpose. I\'d say that IF you are going to show the back of the mini, make sure there is something there worth looking at.

I used to do glamour make-over photography (just portraits;)) and I can assure you that with a lot of the people I worked with a picture of the back of their head would have been a vast improvement over their face:D.
They wouldn\'t have wanted to hang these pictures on the wall however:flip:

requests

Finn,
You\'d be surprised at the number of requests I got for a back view of my VIC9 entry. I didn\'t do anything fancy with the back so didn\'t bother photographing it. Now I feel compelled to do some freehand on his jacket but can\'t for the life of me think what to do. Hence he still sits on the shelf untouched and hasn\'t made it onto CMON.

Hi Vince!

I probably wouldn\'t be surprised:D

The thing is a lot of minis demand a multi angle view in order to get the \'full effect\'. That\'s fine, but my point is purely concerned with what I would consider to be 3-4 rated minis.
Even you wouldn\'t post a rear view of \'left talon of Roc\'. Or would you...:D

What software are you using? Many have a \"Save for Web\" feature that lets you set the actual file size so that you maintain image size and maximize quality.

Cheers, Darkblade

reducing filesize

I use paint shop pro 7 and when I save my pics as a jpeg theres an option to run an optimiser. You can set the level of compression and it tells you real time how big the file will be.It also shows a window of the image so you can check how the level of compression affects the image, but to be honest theres not much difference unless you go over the top.
I think the save for web on other apps is the same sort of thing.
