Hello everyone!
Recently i've become more and more interested in doing a force of pre-heresy Thousand Sons in true scale with all the conversion work that entails (I do like a challenge...) I've just recently come back to the hobby after a long hiatus from my teen years.
The starting point is a boxed set of TS from GW and a blister of heads from MaxMini and some bits and ends from my bitzbox.
True scale on normal marines will be done as follows:
1. Broadening the chest with plasticard (0,2-0,5mm, choosing what looks best). The first two test models have been done with greystuff.
2. Lengthening the waist via plasticard. the waist should be kept the same width as before the chest widening. On the test models this is done by cutting away the plastic waist and replacing that with greystuff plus the plastic "cut away". This makes the upper body more proportional.
3. The legs are lengthened via cutting of the thighs at the cod piece and adding greystuff to the thigh ends. (roughly 1mm, possibly done with plasticard later on)
4. The feet would preferably be reworked from the shinguards but this seems to be more work than the possible result could show... The soles of the feet will be thickened and customised ala chivas work here on the board.
5. Helmets will be from MaxMini, some converted, some not. I like the idea of slightly different helmets in the squad.
6. Shoulder pads will be bulked by adding plasticard to the sides, same as chiva has done.
This should make the marines stand a bit taller and look bulkier compared to conventional ones. I'm hoping the arms will stay in proportion so as to not be forced to redo them also. The backpacks will probably be left as is, for now atleast.
Some rough WIP pics below:
Some lessons learned from this... good tools are important, i need some
plasticard and i need it bad and why i ever stopped doing this is a mystery
to me. keep in mind these are rough sculpts will file them down once its really hardened (another reason to use plasticard when possible...).
Questions, critique, comments are most welcome!
