Ok i\'m building a new ork army in january cos of the nice new models :)

me and 2 friends are organising a tale of 4 gamers style tourney as was featured in the UK white dwarf over the last 6 months, I have decided to go with the greenskin as i have always liked theyre style, my friends are going with eldar and necron, we are starting at 500 points for the first 3 months which we are achieving by buying our respective battleforce box sets, and an HQ model, then after this we will go up in increments of 200 pts or so every couple of months, play a battle at the end of each period and award points on a league table,

now i feel pretty confident defeating eldar certainly until my friend gets the hang of using em and even then if i use my units effectively i should be able to overwhelm them,

The necron however i have no clue about at all, dunno what abillities they have how effective your average boy would be against em, what kind of numbers should i expect, any info or suggestions would be handy thanks :)

Necrons shouldn\'t give you too much of a headache, especially for the first few weeks, as in 500 points I can pretty much guarantee his army will consist of 1 necron lord with ressurection orb, and 2 ten man necron units (Necrons are pricey so he will spend all his 500pts fulfilling his bare minimum 1 hq and 2 troops). Hit them hard and hit them fast! Swamp \'em with boys!

Necrons have the special rule called \'We\'ll be back\' which means if you kill them, then they are layed down instead of being removed, and at the beginning of the necron turn he will roll a dice for every Necron lying down. On a 4+ they get back up again and continue fighting, but on a 1,2 or 3 are dead.

They cannot do this if you hit them with power weapons, rending weapons or an attack that is double their toughness (unless the squad is within 12\" of a Necron Lord with a ressurection orb), and at least 1 necron in the squad must be on his feet before they roll we\'ll be back\' for the ability to work. So if you can put the whole squad on their arse in one phase they can\'t come back!

Necrons also carry Gauss weapons, which automatically cause a wound, or against vehicles a glancing hit, regardless of the targets toughness or vehicles Armour value on a dice roll of 6 when rolling to wound.

Necrons will also phase out if you reduce the army to below 25% of its starting size, which means if you kill enough of them the whole remainder of the army is removed from the tabletop and you win!

Hope this has helped. I don\'t have the Necron Codex to hand, so the wording of the rules may need tweaking, but this should give you food for thought!

It may also be worth you picking yourself up a copy of the Necron and Eldar codexesissis if you will be up against them a lot, so their will be no nasty suprises later on down the line.

Good luck, and keep us informed, I love 4 Gamers articles and would be great to see how yours fairs out.

ok thats good to know, yeah i was thinking of posting regular updates for everyone who is interested, I like writing dramatised battle reports so i\'ll put em up once theyre done :)

Yeah, OrkyDave has it pretty much spot-on. Necrons are generally tough, but vulnerable in small battles, and swamping them is a very viable option, especially with Orks.
The Eldar should also be fair to deal with at 500 pts. as they are also a bit pricy (again in comparison to Orks), so you won\'t have too much to worry about. You probably won\'t see too many specialised units in small battles, and guardians basically have only 12\" reach with their guns, so you\'ll be able to close for CC without being whittled down. That\'s all very basic information, though, as Eldar especially are very flexible and depending on your opponent, your mileage may vary concerning any specific tactics.
Good luck, and let\'s hope to see some interesting reports
