a couple of rookie questions

Hi All,

I have a couple of questions regarding some vallejo products.

First, can the model color matte varnish be thined without losing it\'s matting effects?

And does anyone else find the game color bloody red to be very hard to work with, both in terms of getting it to flow and getting it to be not chalky when applied?

thanks for any advice :D

Most often I do not respond to questions because I do not feel I know enough
But in this one I have experimented quite a bit

I would not thin the matt varnish at all.
Un thinned multiple coats after each is dry is suggested.
I am very sure you do not thin the gloss for it becomes milky and will not cure right, I am always careful that paint is very dry before trying any sealer and have grown to love dull coat more than any other. Humidity is a factor with sealers as much as primers here in Florida.

The game color red is thick, yes
Using Magic wash (1 part future floor wax to 3 parts water )is what i use for all thinning of paint. It glosses over but the protection of the paint not rubbing is superb and the ability to wash for my style is improved. Many others here use only water with stunning effects as well.

Models and game colors differ very much on each color in consistency and tones, but the model paint has less grain when diluted even enough for the airbrush.

TMI yes I think so but none the less welcome to the forums
PS Einion is the huge knowledges on paint structure. he is kind and would answer a U2U I think, I have not seen him around lately. :(

Edit welcome to the forums :D

The vallejo glaze medium will allow you to thin the blood red without too much dilution which causes the paint to separate from its binder. Besides that, it is fun stuff to experiment with.

I think the probleme with diluting varnish is that it\'s very hard to do with clean water, and you end up adding substence that will mist the dry glaze.
For the red, yes I\'v goten the same effect. And not only with red unfortunatly. Tried diluting more but to no avail. So I just switched back to GW red wich works fine. well as good as red can work since it\'s a hell of a color to work with to start with, for me at least :p
