Second: I think you should smoothen the way your colours go... The black armour looks too grey, means, you used too soon too much grey in your colour mix. The highlights should be fine, thin lines... thats what i try to do. And my upload should happen soon, so you are able to see how i paint, and critizise as well
To be honest i have quite some problems to really explain how to improve or where there is improval needed, for me, your painting-style is solid, but the effort seems to be too much (my impression when i read your description) to what has come out of it. I don't think i'm a good painter, i do ok, but there are many who do better. But i've seen many minis and i think i can compare good enough. The best hint i can give is, watch every now and then into the top last 7 days. there are only high standard painted minis... the some times make you cry, when you compare, but its worth it... try different techniques, you're on the right way!
