Eowyn on Horseback
I think the LOTR purists will hate this, but I got quite sick of seeing this figure done in the same way over and over again. I approached this without having much of an idea of the colourscheme I was going to use, apart from the fact that since I have a horse, I've always wanted to do a miniature 'portrait' of him - I am really satisfied with the way this works, it actually looks exactly like him with his blaze, his pink muzzle, and his three white socks. While I was on the whole equestrian topic, I thought I'd paint Eowyn in the colours I wear when I compete, hence the cream and blue scheme. In equestrian showing, it is quite common to use coloured browbands to tie the whole appearance of horse and rider together and to show off the horse's colouring and head - I thought this would work on the miniature as well, and in my opinion it did - kind of added an interest and made the whole thing look a bit busier. I feel that my NMM is coming along more and more, and I had a huge breakthrough with creating smoother blends. The miniature itself - I don't usually do a lot of GW stuff but I liked this sculpt, the LOTR range has a more realistic feel to it which I like. However, the casting quality was absolutely appalling - lots of flash in really awkward places I could hardly or not at all get into, and huge gaps where the halves of the horse fit together. I am not quite sure about the yellowish lichen on the base, I like the idea of the shrubs there, but the colour - I don't know, one moment it makes it pop, one moment it's distracting. My photography skills are improving, too - about time! Comments, praise, and criticism are very much appreciated.
