Valderynn The Archmage

Stunning paintjob to win the third Golden Toadstool Competition. Check out Andrew's site at http://members.optushome.com.au/alum/ for more great artwork! "This is one of those miniatures that I bought to try out some new techniques on: - the reverse flames (I deliberately stopped the flames at a red- orange shade rather than going all the way to black after someone's suggestion on minipainter). - painting NMM on fabric, in this case the trim of the sleeves. For me at least it was a bit different to painting NMM on a flat surface, as the sleeve had crumples where the gems were. I made a mistake and painted the gems AFTER the NMM... so after doing the gems, I had to go and touch up all the gold again d'oh! - reflection of the phoenix flames in the NMM and also on the red fabric, inspired by Victoria's diorama and Rob's entry from last GT (thanks and full credit for the idea). I'm quite happy with the results in the end... not perfect, but the main thing is that I learnt a lot from painting him over the last 2 weeks. Andrew"
