Undead Duo
I painted this small display up for a Halloween-themed contest at the local GW. The contest was supposed to be about zombies, so I made sure that the hunch-backed fellow looked suitably unhealthy. I was pleased with the way the skin turned out. It started with Catachan green, and was brought up with elf flesh and a bit of skull white, then shaded with some purple glazes in the recesses. The clothing turned out nice as well; I kept with my usual drab colour scheme, as this model will be another front-ranker in my Sylvanian Levy zombie regiment (alongside #70294 and #72677). I played around with a new sourced lighting technique for the torch-bearing critter. Rather than using light glazes to simulate light as I usually do, I blended the light colour right into the highlights for the area in question. It was fun, but I think I'll stick with my original method from now on. The base is relatively straightforward. It's a small wooden plaque built up with old citadel bases, and then covered in plaster and gravel. The advantage of using old bases to give it shape is that a gap can be left that will precisely fit the base size of the model. I used static grass, sand, Woodland Scenics tall grass (washed with some green and grey paints) and dried hot pepper to textue the base. Incidentally, the model took first place in the contest, although there wasn't much in the way of competition. Comments are welcome, as always!
