Female Fighter / Paladin in metallics

Non-Metallic Metallics are currently all the rage right now, and I have to say that I love seeing it done very well. However, I was curious to see if people still liked metallic paints on models or not. To this end, I picked up this model (lots of armour, so she was a good candidate), and went to work, blending and shading her in metallic paints. A lot of people don't seem to blend metallics anymore, and part of the blame has to lie with the painters at Games Workshop, who only ever seem to encourage people to drybrush metallics over black nowadays. This model's a bit of an experiment to see if people still like metallics, or if I should just chuck them into the garbage and go NMM exclusively from now on.

I'm not a big fan of the nmm. I think people over do it to show off and end up ruining the effect. I've seen some good nmm but it's always been sublte. I still like a dash of ol metals first though.

I use metallics and forego the whole nmm junk. (I haven't got the hang of it)

Kelly, I have to say that I agree with you about NMM. If done well it can be stunning, If not the models look like they are just grey and yellow. I use metallics and really like to blend and highlight them. IMO they look far more realistic. For this model you have done a very fine job on the armour, She is really 'catching the light'. The blue on the sword is a bit too much, but still shows that you can use colours with metallics effectively. The crystal is cool. Finally, I would say give up neither technique, go with what works for the particular model and what artistically feels right. Good work, perhaps you'll inspire people to better metallics. 8)
