Dark Elf Sorcerer
This Dark Elf Sorcerer sat primed yet untouched for years, since about 1998 or so when I was using him (unpainted) as a character in a D&D group. Back then I would base a figure after I painted it, which is why he lacks texture on the base. Now what I do is base the figure before priming, then treat the texture/basing as just another part of the miniature. The painted flagstones on the base were done to avoid having to struggle with toothpicks and glue under those robes, and blah blah blah bacon. In short, I was lazy, but it worked out okay. He was also a test figure for a new paint brand called Freak Flex. It's not bad stuff, but I prefer Vallejo, which is mostly what I used to paint over the aforementioned Freak Flex. The only thing that carried over from the Freak Flex were the bright red robes. It's all non-metallic metal and gem work otherwise. Oh, and the skin tone: in short, I've never been crazy about grey- or black-skinned drow, though I have seen some truly remarkable jobs using those colours. I wanted something that invoked that freaky Dark Elf King from the 1st Final Fantasy game, who was this wild-haired fellow who made you fetch a sandwich or something and then he whomped your butt. It's been awhile since I played, obviously. Still, I figure this guy has his hand outstretched to reclaim his sandwich before commencing with the butt-whomping. "Sir, your... sandwich..." WHACK! "AHHHH! AHHHH! MY HEAD!!" On yeah. Being a Dark Elf Sorcerer is the life. Kep
