I think your right about the pic. A side shot would have been better so we could see the horsy. You are difinitely under rated at least a 6 for the painting and 1 extra point for the base. Nice work.
Great detailing on the base, and the expression on his face heightens the perilousness. The contrast between the muted, menacing tones of the base and the bright heraldry of tabard and barding is great. Possibly a bit more range in shadow depths and highlights would enhance this.
