This is an attempt to mimic realistic fur coloring for a wolf. I think it came out pretty decent. I really like this particular figure even though it is a little old. I wish I had a few more so I could experiment with other fur patterns and colors.
I think the pelt coloration looks great. The eyes look a bit funky though. If you want to practice painting wolves, look for the Elfquest Wolfrider sets on Ebay - each has 3 or 4 wolves. They are tiny, but nice sculpts by Julie Guthrie.
Use Reveal bulbs or halogen bulbs to reduce the yellow cast of your pics. The brown tones of the wolf and the background make for a very monochrome picture.
A bit of grass turf on the base would help as well.
