I like this style of painting. In fact, I sometimes try to paint this way. In the end I always end up blending the colors for a more gentle fade from light to dark. Blown up to this scale, this mini doesn't look so hot, but I'm sure that on a table top this is a kick-tail piece of work.
Nice highlighting on the tunic. Add a bowstring (pluck a whisker from your sister's cat or get a piece of thread) The hair needs a bit more work. Darker shadow area (ink or wash) with the brightest highlight on top of his head (near white)
