Le Duke De Carcasonne: Bretonnian Lord

An Archaon conversion, i originally bought this model to do a fun conversion and put on eBay. The model stayed unused for some time before i decided to go to Golden Demon France. Looking at last years winner in the Cavelier category i decided it was worth doing and Taking along. To start i had to remove all of the chaos icons and spikes, this included spikes growing out of the horse and it's mane, the Slayer of Kings and the skulls around Archaons neck aswell as another few odd bits like on his stirrups. Starting with the horse i made the caparison. Using lead sheet, bent and shaped for movement, to make the lower part and the upper part was made from green. The srcolls were made from the 'sprue' parts of a brass etched leaves sheet (the ones from the base), twisted and curled and attached to the back of mini shields also of green. The knight received an important head swop and replacement sword and shield, made from plasticard. The head is a plastic one from the Knights Errant, i think. Additional detail was added to the sword hilt and pommel and to the breast plate to replace some of the removed chaos icons with bretonnian ones. The colour scheme i had decided on awhile before actually finishing the conversion. It was originally going to include red stripes on the yellow diamonds but i left them out to avoid the model looking too busy. Unfortunately the colours lack real strong impact, they look good but don't stand out as much as i wanted them to. The model took three or four weeks the convert and another two or three to paint. The base is made from two Warmachine bases 'back to back' with some plastic tube between. After A small disaster only days before GD France while trying to attach the model to the base he was ready. Remembering last years winner i was confidant of a place... unfortunately there were alot of other very good painters entering this category too and i was pushed off the podium in to the finalists somewhere. I'm happy with the result and feel that the winners deserved there awards, the better models won. Next time i wont use previous winners as a bench mark. Comments, especially regarding colour choice, welcome. Thank you.

Phenominal job and congrats on a well deserved win!! This is my favorite Brettonian lord conversion. You've given me some great inspiration for mine. The only nitpick I have, is that the black lines of the swords on his shield and the matching ones on the horse aren't completely and laser straight. Now that is such a small thing and it's not stopping me from giving this a total 10, but maybe laying a straight edge down (ruler or something) might have helped to steady the hand so you couldn't tell they were "hand drawn". Knowing the scale, I still think you must have the hands of a surgeon to get them as good as they are. The color choice is good I think. Good contrast and a very bright regal look. Again, congrats and way to go!

***BREAKING NEWS, THIS JUST IN*** Just taken this guy to Gamesday UK (2004) and entered him in the Fantasy Monster category. Guess what? He won the Bronze! Those of you who follow the GD winners will already know this though... I´m very pleased with him now.

Hey Rich, about time you put this up on CMON! Great miniature with some nice conversions. I personally think it's a shame that you didn't win an award for this dude but I haven't seen those who did. I think the choice of colours are absolutely fine, although I gotta agree with the others about the freehand work. The blending on the horse is superb and I love the base. Overall - great work :)
