Ral Partha Dark Sun Dwarf

Another old mini (1991) which is actually a dwarf! No beard, no heavy armor, a bit unique to say the least but a godsgift if you need a dwarven monk that shaves :). The tatoos are Argyll's first freehand work and have turned out quite nicely (after some strong language) Please feel free to comment.

The face lacks defenition, and this is further compounded by the gloss varnish. It would be fixed by some simple shading and a matte varnish (Testor's dullcote, etc). You can do this by improving your skill with skintones - on a model like this, learning how to shade those effectively is key. There are some very good articles on CMON regarding this, you should check them out. Also, as in the previous comment, make sure to thin down your paints. If your freehand work is any measure, I look forward to seeing your work as it improves!

The monkey and crab tattoos are actually quite nice. But the rest of the mini needs a lot of work. Most areas seem flat and the paints are way too thick, also the face, especially the eyes have been done sloppily and the glossy varnish isn't helping either. I think it's important that you get the basics down before you start doing things like freehand tattoos. So thin down your paints and do easy washing and highlighting and take it step by step and you'll see, you'll improve fast.
